PS2 [Open PS2 Loader] Game Bug Reports

Any fix for Spyro: Enter The Dragonfly (SLUS-20315)? The cutscenes have audio desync issues. I have tried modes 1+6, 1+3+6, 1+6+mdma2 but nothing makes a difference. I am using the official network adaptor with the sata upgrade kit, with one of the 1.1 OPL beta versions and I also tried with OPL 0.9.1 yet the problem persists.

Edit: Got the PAL version instead, the cutscenes work fine now. Since this game has really bad performance issues, it rarely ever hits 60fps anyway so the PAL version even feels a bit more stable due to the 50hz limit. I believe it also has less bugs since it released a few weeks later, I highly recommend anyone interested to avoid the NTSC version.

When there are audio-sync problems you should also try MODE 2. It also solves FMVs stuttering and can avoid freezes on certain games.

Also make sure you weren't forcing the NTSC version to PAL (via GSM global settings).

OPL: 1.0.0.1
Mode: USB

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (any version, EUR or USA) won't start. Or rather, it starts but stays on the first load indefinitely. The game is originally in bin and cue, which I converted to ISO with OPL Manager (I tried other programs too). I tried to insert the iso both in the CD folder and in the DVD folder but the problem is always the same, it gets stuck on initial loading. According to the Algol compatibility list: "This game does not launch with Rev1319 but Rev1085 is Ok"

I'm at version 1.0.0.1 and have never had any compatibility issues in the myriad of games I've played other than this one. I don't feel like making a downgrade so as not to encounter problems with other games. Just as I don't feel like upgrading to 1.2 beta because it is still incompatible with Popstarter. Do you have any suggestions to test to solve the problem?

sorry, I meant the version 1.0.0
First: Are you sure you're using the OFFICIAL OPL's 1.0.0 build? Quick hint... if it has a PS1 dedicated page, it is NOT official.

Second: Please, test it with the latest OFFICIAL beta: https://github.com/ps2homebrew/Open-PS2-Loader/releases
You must report incompatibilities with the latest version, not with an old one.

Third:

I think you're a bit out of the loop:

Yes I'm sure it's version 1.0.0. I really got confused with POPStarter Game Installer (1.0.0.1) which I have had on my PC for a few years but which I have never used. I always used the classic procedure with CUE2POPS_2.3, listing the directory of the ELF file in conf_apps and renaming the ARTs with the initial XX. I would like to test the game with the new beta version and let you know if it works. Can you confirm that my current POPStarter configuration that I have with v1.0.0 will work in the new beta version?

"POPStarter Game Installer for OPL" does all of that automatically

conf_apps.cfg? Yes, it works

But, hey... you could have tested that by yourself with no fear since in the end, you can always roll back...

@TnA, can you please read these posts till the end and answer these questions:
  1. How is it possible that some people have Disney's Treasure Planet USB ZSO working and some people don't?
  2. Can the PS2 model affect game compatibility?
  3. Is it possible to create a mode 7 that will always display the PS2 logo regardless of console region, like in OPL DB 914?
I have also updated my reports: World Destruction League Thunder Tanks, Naruto Uzumaki Chronicles 2.

And added some new reports: DreamWorks Shrek's Carnival Craze Party Games, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Winx Club, Jak and Daxter The Precursor Legacy, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell.

@moriljn1, see my report here.

Sorry for the delay, I did my tests well. First of all, thank you for the advice that I will apply to make things easier for me. Well, I discovered something. I put on the USB drive the same stable version of OPL 1.0.0 that I have on my memory card, the stable version 1.1.0 and the latest beta version 1.2 (1968) to be able to start them quickly from the Apps section of OPL. The bottom line is that the game (Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets) launches and runs on all 3 versions of OPL from USB, even the 1.0.0 that I have on my memory card and which doesn't launch the game! Of course I don't know what explanation there could be. In any case I can delete OPL from the memory card and boot it from USB, right?

OPL is known to cause mess in the IOP memory

You can. But be sure to have everything set up before deleting the one from your MC

So launching the game using OPL from the MC, the game doesn't start? I never experienced that. Are you using a SONY 8MB memory Card?

I always used NTSC-U version of Gran Turismo 4 with OPL from internal HDD.

I now installed the PAL version (SCES_517.19), normal/complete rip from the DVD (MD5: 5b504676595dea8b32cb675993285fca).

The game immediately starts as the NTSC version but when the first screen fade out the screen remains black. The Ps2 is not freezed I can IGR/IGR-power-off.

Is this normal behavior, PAL version is supposed to not work from internal HDD? I cannot find any clear answer online, aside some claims that a cutted DVD-5 version of the game should work.

P.S. I made any possible tests with MODEs, different OPL versions from 0.9.2 onward, also tested on 2 different Ps2 (39004 and 50004), always exact same behavior.

I extracted back the ISO from the HDD for checking eventual corruption during installation but the MD5 is perfect.

Never experienced any problem with the NTSC-U version of the game (complete rip DVD-9).

I solved this way:

I thought to try the game with HDLoader. Since I installed it (as all other 131 games) with the new HDL Batchkit 1.1.5, HDLoader couldn't see the games. So I deleted GT4 and installed it again with HDL Dump Helper Gui (that put HDL. as prefix of installed games).

Very good, since this way HDLoader can only see GT4, so gamelist loads very fast. The game plays perfectly.

But some memories started to arise...** So I tested the game with OPL again and it worked.

Game MD5 is the same either installing it with HDL dump helper gui 2.3 or newer HDL based programs. The differences I can see are the UDMA 4 flag newer programs add automatically and the games prefix that lacks HDL.

I don't know if also the fact to have HDLoader Settings partition and/or the HDL gamelist on the HDD can make some difference in OPL compatibility? I always had that impression.
I should try to install the game again with HDL Batchkit to figure out... But tomorrow my relative will come to pick everything up, also the HDD is very old.

For now I'll keep using HDL Dump Helper gui for installing Ps2 games.

**I remember some problems already happened to me years ago, the first time I used HDL dumx for installing Killzone on a 2TB HDD, there was stuttering and other problems on first startup. Then I deleted it and re-installed with HDL Dump Helper Gui.

It is NOT "incompatible" with POPStarter...
OPL NEVER had any specific PS1 or POPStarter support!

Then why did you claim what I quoted first?
Aren't there two OPL branches maintained due to some drama with the ps2-home guys? I seem to remember hearing about that long ago, like 5 years ago, so memory's fuzzy on details.

That place seemed weird, owner of it felt like a control freak. No idea if it's even up anymore, couldn't care less either.

Edit: oh god I'm not even going to ask further but I'm sorry you guys have to deal with such an egotistical shitbag

Je n'utilise que des versions PAL dans tous les jeux que je lance sur mes PS2 SCPH-39004 et 50004. Interface ETH/IDE de SONY.

From what I can tell it is not a matter of NA. Same behavior on SONY NA or clones (IDE/SATA).
You install with winhiip that use a similar protocol as HDL dump helper gui (and it also installs the HDLoader Settings partition), the problem comes with newer HDL dump versions.
But I'm not sure about the actual cause, I didn't thought to try starting the game with OPL after booting HDLoader. Maybe the game would have started even if installed with the batchkit manager.
I'll do that test soon or later.

I remembered what I used to do in the past years. You can read this thread to get an idea: [SOLVED] 24 - The Game (SCES-53358) stuttering with OPL via HDD - PS2-HOME.com - PS2 Homebrew and Tools

I always installed HDLoader Settings on my HDDs, since I want to be able to start games also with HDLoader. But now I was setting this HDD for use with OPL only.
I remember I used to power-on the HDDs with HDLoader first time and load modules with Ule once. And those things affected compatibility.
You can see also in that thread I linked, he solved that way. Indeed I never had need to enable MODEs in many games (like GT4, Devil May cry, Tekken TT, and others).
