PS2 OPL Plus by Y_Fess

Hello, I'm Y_Fess! I have been investing a lot of time in studying and modifying the source code of OPL (Open PS2 Loader), implementing features that I felt were necessary and are not available in the official OPL versions. Here are some of the enhancements I am working on:
  • Automatic CD/DVD drive deactivation: The original OPL does not perform this function, forcing users to keep the console lid open to prevent damage to the optical drive.
  • XMB Interface: Inspired by the look of the PSP and PS3.
  • Native online gaming interface: Allows users to add friends and send messages directly through the OPL interface, using a NAS server or P2P connection (by configuring a DNS on the PS2 network).
  • Native PS1 game support: For backward-compatible PS2 consoles, eliminating the need for emulators like POPSTARTER. (This feature is currently in testing with my small team, and we are exploring modifications that may make it a reality in the future.)
  • Additional menu option: Enables OPL to recognize and run games directly from physical media, though not a crucial feature, I found it interesting to include.
I am currently in the development phase, and once I have something concrete, I will be willing to share it. However, I will not publicly release my modified version, as I am not part of the official OPL team and believe it could impact the project's development. I would be happy to share my code and modifications with the official team if they are interested, so these features might potentially be included in future OPL versions. I appreciate everyone who makes the magic of open-source possible!

Hi.

Automatic CD/DVD drive deactivation: The original OPL does not perform this function, forcing users to keep the console lid open to prevent damage to the optical drive.

I am not quite sure by you mean by that?
But once you launch OPL, disc in tray will stop.
At least with OPL 1.0.0 or later.

XMB Interface: Inspired by the look of the PSP and PS3.

Very old OPL 0.5 has it:
https://web.archive.org/web/20141023155237/https://bitbucket.org/ifcaro/open-ps2-loader/downloads/.

Native PS1 game support: For backward-compatible PS2 consoles, eliminating the need for emulators like POPSTARTER. (This feature is currently in testing with my small team, and we are exploring modifications that may make it a reality in the future.)

OPL is mainly for PS2 games.
Not for PS1.

If you want to have all in one check this:

Or neutrino:

Additional menu option: Enables OPL to recognize and run games directly from physical media, though not a crucial feature, I found it interesting to include.

That is a good idea.

Native online gaming interface: Allows users to add friends and send messages directly through the OPL interface, using a NAS server or P2P connection (by configuring a DNS on the PS2 network).

That is interesting.

This sounds VERY interesting.

All PS2 consoles are backward compatible... not some...

Anyway maybe something other that DKWDRW is comming?!
https://www.psx-place.com/resources/dkwdrv.1255/.

The way I understand it is there's no way to invoke PS1DRV while in PS2 mode on pre-deckard consoles. This is because the onboard PS1 hardware is dual-purpose, used as PS2 hardware (the IOP, if I'm not mistaken).

So this could be another emulation project like FFGriever's abandoned project.

Yes, all models are compatible, but the tests on 70x models were more pleasant than the tests done on the 90x models. We used a Ps2 Slim 77006 and a Ps2 Slim 90006. Anyway, it's an extremely complex thing to develop, but we're getting some crumbs

This is the first test version of Orange Chat OPL (this will not be the name of the chat). The server can already receive messages from clients globally. A giant breakthrough for ps2's ETH internet connection!

Are you saying that USB loading could work on non-DECKARD models for PSX games?

how would this work with the fat ps2? or would it work at all?

Do you mean the ps2 Fat

I'm saying that there is a minuscule possibility of using the ps2's native PS1DRV to run ps1 games from OPL. So far the most difficult modification of my project, but we have already had some positive results, such as opening the game (it was not implemented in the modified OPL, as the system is not ready yet) but we reverse-engineered both the OPL software and the hardware to be able to code this mod. It's been in development for months, but I decided to announce it today

I'll bring you images of the project once the team finishes the pre-alpha..

When I say we reverse-engineered OPL, I mean we had to redo and recompile some parts of the code

yes thats what i said

We hope so, it is not possible for me to test the Fat since in my country finding a PS2 Fat to buy is very difficult because it is one of the first versions. More taking into account the console architecture: The most plausible answer is YES.

We're concentrating more on chat during this period, because developing something that connects PlayStations2 from all over the world in a single chat room seems incredible to me. I've developed an interface for Windows that also connects to the server because it uses the same coding principles. And we've already done tests with the Ps2 version, this crossplay is amazing! But I don't know if it's a good idea to release this Windows interface along with the rest.
