PS3 PAL/EUR PS3 plays import Blu-Rays but not import DVD's. HELP NEEDED.

Dear reader,

Thank you for your time opening this thread and helping me in advance.

The situation is as follows I have a PS3 Phat (CECHC03) which I want to use to play genuine/legit import Blu-Rays and genuine/legit import DVD's. I'm in Europe so my region is B for Blu-Ray's and 2 for DVD's. Now my girlfriend buys import anime and movies because of special editions or not being sold here. Those are region A for Blu-Ray's and region 1 for DVD's.

I have tried 4.84.2 Rebug CEX and DEX (dumped my EID Root Key, swapped kernels and flashed the D-REX Rebug firmware), I alos tried the 4.86.1 LE and 4.87.2 Evilnaut firmwares (this is the current firmware that is on my PS3 Phat). I have installed MultiMan and WebmanMOD. I have changed the regions in MultiMAN and I can see that is has been saved after a reboot and I see the same regions in WebmanMOD. When I was on DEX I changed the region to North America and set Fake Region to ON. This does not seem to help. I also installed Showtime/Movian and Movian Disc Access to be sure.

So when I try to load the discs via MultiMan it just exists to the XMB. I also tried to load the disc then press the PlayStation button and switch to the disc, I exit MultiMan but that's it. It won't run the DVD. It gives the region error message. Weirdly enough Blu-Ray's seem to work just fine, but since most of the anime she watches are on DVD's I'm stuck. Also when I use Movian with Disc Access, the log gives a file:///libdvdcss error and I'm stuck there.

I know I can rip the discs and load the ISO's but I want a system that my girlfriend just can use like a normal player. Starting a app is not a problem but ripping to ISO's and stuff is not doable.

I'm betting I'm doing something wrong and I'm willing to start over and provide screenshots, more information and/or logfiles, if you can tell me how to save those for you. Again, thank you for your time and helping me out.

Hello,

Yes, those are on Region A for the Blu-Ray's (which seem to work) and Region 1 for DVD's. Still getting a region error. When I use Showtime/Movian I get a dvdnav or read error. Or a black screen and the log says, libdvdcss error.

can you try making an iso of the dvd and mount it using webman mod? iso needs to be placed on dev_hdd0/DVDISO or in a usb stick, also on DVDISO. you will have to refresh xmb afterwards or it will not appear as an available image

When I try to make an ISO via MultiMan, I get read errors. So I'm trying via my PC now. But thanks for the suggestion.

yeah your laser might be on it's way out (maybe just the dvd diode?). the reason why i want you to try this is to confirm wether or not the dvd region free functionality is exclusive for ISOs (which i believe it is), since i've been asked this before and couldn't find a way to play other region dvds directly from disc

Did you manage to make it work? I have the same exact problem in my PAL PS3 Phat Cech-H with Rebug 4.84.2 Rex.
Webman & MultiMan work for the blu ray region allowing me to play region A BD, but I can't seem to make the DVD Region change to 1.
Changing Region in the Debug Settings doesn't work, enabling Fake Region doesn't work.
I tried downgrading and installing other CFWs and I even tried installing HEN but nothing worked so I went back to Rebug 4.84.2.
I read somewhere that the DVD and BD Region settings are stored in the Xregistry.sys file so I tried to edit it from my PC, but when I opened it I found out that the DVD Region of my consolle was already set to 1, so I don't know what else to try...

Most blurays are region free (yes even if they show a specific region code), DVDs are all region locked. I asked the same question last year with a UK region DVD and there's nothing you can do to make it work.

This is just another reason to rip your DVDs and use Movian to play them (you can even control your PS3's Movian from your android phone's Movian)

hi i have the problem that if i play a dvd using sony xmb and using a rgb scart the protection pop in and i see th emovie in green, same as on ps2. There is a way to fix this by using movian or multiman? with movian i can't read dvd disc or iso, please help thanks

i am not sure about the protection. this is why i recommend to rip the dvd (on a computer) into a mp4 file. you can remove any protections or limitations. and add subtitles and more if you wish.

is not a dvd protectionis a SONY protection...the same was on ps2. i see green ONLY when the movie start. the dvd has any protection of course, is burned...
