PS3 PKG Games/game folder in FAT32 USB not being recognized by Multiman

I successfully installed the latest CFW 4.91 but I'm having issues getting Multiman to recognize the games despite my FAT32 USB being plugged in. My PS3 recognizes the USB, even the Multiman file manager recognizes my USB.

When I highlight the "Game" menu on the multiman XMB and press Refresh, nothing shows up. I'd like to run my pkgs off of my USB instead of having to transfer the files over to the PS3 HDD.

I've installed Webman, PrepISO and Multiman following a few video tutorials online.

I have a .pkg game stored in a "GAMES" folder and its .rap file stored in a folder named "exdata"

Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated.
 
PKG files are like "installers". Those will only copy its content into your console. After that, you will see the app listed in the XMB and ready to launch.

WebMAN MOD, Multiman, etc., can mount ISOs and JB folder games, not PKGs.

Appreciate the response. I was hoping to use my USB to play games directly from them as seen in a few video tutorials on YouTube, but it seems I might have misunderstood the file formats - I'm a complete newbie with the PS3 cfw. I've used the TrueAncestor app in order to extract the pkg files as suggested by a few users on the discord, but to no avail as far as appearing on the XMB. Do you know if its possible if I could store the extracted pkgs onto the USB and then transfer its contents over to the hdd0>GAMES? I also have rap files for one of the pkgs. Would I need to create an exdata folder for the hdd0 as well?

For the time being I've created a "packages" folder on the root of the USB containing my pkg files and that seems to work for the time being. I'm just curious as to the format of the games themselves. If I were play them directly from a USB would they need to be in a certain format?

As far as I know, pkg file must be installed to PS3 internal HDD first before you can play it. Maybe you should check this https://www.psx-place.com/threads/install-pkg-to-usb.30662/
 
Yep I've managed to install PKG files from my USB to the PS3 internal HDD no problems. But I'm curious as to how these video tutorial online manage to play their games directly from a USB without having to install anything to the HDD. Example is Modded Warfare's tutorial on how to run games via an external drive/USB.

My USB is formatted to FAT32 while the video provided is using an NTFS format. Are .iso formats the only way to play games directly from a USB?

You can play ISO and Folder format games directly from USB. I'm not sure about extracted PKG format.
For ISO format, you can follow that video tutorial.
For Folder format, you need to create new folder called GAMES on your USB FAT32 and copy the game to GAMES folder. There is some exception though. Folder format that has files above 4GB+ inside cannot be play directly from USB.

Much appreciated. Would I need to launch multiman if I were to use the method you suggested?
