Playstation 2 Master Disc Patcher for MechaPwn

PS2 Playstation 2 Master Disc Patcher for MechaPwn 1.03

Oh okay, my bad. It workeds, I just had to be patient and wait. Mods, feel free to delete these comments before they go through. My apologies for blowing up the thread before actually waiting for it to work.

I have an scph-50001 with the lastest mechapwn installed. I have used your 1.03 PS2 master disc patcher. It loads the games fine, but I get this wierd version of playstation 2 logo when they boot. Is this normal for mechapwn?

Thanks

Do i need freemcboot to use this ? Or does this allow me to burn discs and play them as if they were original discs on a stock ps2?

Do ps1 games run on ps1 mode at 240p?

Mechapwn allows SCPH-5000x and higher model numbers to be placed into a state where they can read Master Discs. But you still need a way to start the games as the BIOS On Screen Display that appears when turning the system on will not boot a Master Disc. FreeMCBoot will allow you to boot the discs. Action Replay, GameShark, Swap Magic, etc could also probably start the discs for you.

PS1 games will boot from the OSD and don't need any Master Disc patches. PS1 video output is unaffected. They will display at 240p/480i as the game originally did.

Good, thank you. My ps2 is the latest 9000 series. I already have free mc boot on it. Unfortunately it's not modchipped.
Does this mean ps1 would still run natively?, do ps1 games has to be constantly run from the disc drive? Isn't there a way to trick the ps2 to switch into ps1 mode and then have it read the game from a usb stick or hdd ect in order to preserve the laser?

Running PS1 games from USB has much lower compatibility than using actual discs. I wouldn't worry about "preserving the laser". It exists to be used. If it should fail, you can get it fixed. With Mechapwn you can run any PS1 disc, original, import, or CD-R. Compatibility will be the same as if you used original discs.

I think the 90000 series emulates the main PS1 CPU which lowers compatibility some. But there is a good chance you'll never notice a problem. Older series still have an actual PS1 CPU core to run the game code.

Bonjour @MottZilla

Il est aussi intéressant de faire des comparaisons entre les deux listes officielles que j'administre (pour @krHACKen).

It is also interesting to make comparisons between the two official lists that I administer (for @krHACKen).

The compatibility lists are excellent. There are many games that appear to work well but even more have minor to major problems or don't work at all. If it's your only option then it's better than nothing, but if you can run PS1 games from a disc you should get much better results. PS2's backwards compatibility isn't perfect either but it's much better than POPStarter.

En effet, POPStarter n'est pas excellent mais c'est mieux que rien. Les jeux peuvent être lancés sur USB, c'est le moins cher AMHA.

That's true, it is basically free if you already have a USB device that will work and can run homebrew. So in that regard if a game you want to play works fine it's a nice option to have. For older models that can't benefit from Mechapwn it has more utility. However older models that can't use Mechapwn can use TonyHax with a compatible game so even those models have a softmod option to run PS1 discs.

Là, je reconnais un connaisseur. Merci pour ta sympathique réponse. Bonne année 2023 à toi.

Trying to patch more games and having some problems. Call of Duty: Finest Hour will not patch. As for non-NTSC region games, I cannot change the region as there is no region.ini file in ANY of your patcher downloads. How do I access this mysterious "region.ini"?

The region.ini is simply a text file with either the letter U, J, or E. If no region.ini exists it defaults to U. Changing the region may not be necessary for things to function anyway. All that matters is that the mechacon mounts the master disc as readable and you have a way to then boot the executable on the disc.

What happened when you tried to patch that Call of Duty game? Saying it will not patch isn't anything to go on.

It said something along the lines of "error patching files" or something like that. I can't remember the exact words.

Also, with the region.ini, is that supposed to be included with the patcher or is that in the game's files itself?
