PS2 PlayStation BB Navigator in 2020

Hi, I just wanted to post here as this is the most relevant, and first result about PSBBN/BB Navigator.
If you come across this post, i too watched the f4mi video about PSBBN, and was led on a hunt for installing games on the Definitive Edition made by CosmicScale. Through much trial and error, and reading through several forum posts and github pages, I got it working off a fresh Definitive Edition install, and just wanted to share. Thanks for all the cool people and awesome things that have happened to make this possible.
apologies for the spaces, I did not have an account for this forum.

Half of those instructions are completely unnecessary. To install OPL all you need to do is copy the OPL elf file to the PS2 HDD using wlaunchelf then just launch OPL. It will automatically create the +OPL partition and the conf_hdd.cfg when you set the "HDD Device Start Mode" in settings. Also expanding the +OPL partition to 4 GB is VERY overkill, it only stores config files and artwork for OPL. 128MB is more than enough considering you'll only be installing around 50 games on PSBBN.

The "Installing games" instructions are also wrong. I've never tried PFS-BatchKit-Manager but for PSBBN you definitely want to "hide ps2 game partitions in HDD-OSD". This allows you to create a separate OPL-Launcher partition for each game so you can have custom artwork in the PSBBN game channel.

You can also create a bootable partition for wlaunchelf so it can be launched from within PSBBN. No fmcb memory card required after that.

Unfortunately proper information about all of this is very sparse and scattered around the internet so I just wrote down what worked for me.
I didn't know opl auto creates the partition.
Didn't know it auto creates the conf.
4gb is super overkill but it's fine tbh.
pfs batch manager installs games regularly and when running the step to move the game for bbn, it does move the partition to a hidden one, and installs the 128mb partition for bbn.
I spent several hours across 2 days trying to get this to work through various means, because information is so limited. It may not be the most optimal solution, but it is one that works.
I've tried so many things and kept having problems and road blocks. This works for someone just starting out without deep knowledge of how the ps2 works and is laid out.
Thanks for your efforts on psbbn definitive edition

It is literally kill because Expanding feature in uLE never worked properly and it corrupting APA. Should be NEVER used. Besides that, instead of making +OPL, user can just use __common or make it by hand already larger.

I use __common and I actually shrank that partition lol. When you're dealing with the limited space available on PSBBN and trying to cram as much as you can on the HDD then saving a few hundred MB matters.

Yeah, PSBBN is kinda niche at the moment so there's not a lot of info out there about using it in 2024. I think I might put together a video myself. Glad you got it up and running.
Hey, I know this isn't the proper topic to talk about this, but is there a way to get the Japanese version of the patched PSBBN? Just asking cause I have plans to use it in the near future

You can do a manual install. Go to the Internet Archive. Search for "PlayStation Broadband Navigator (PSBBN) Definitive English Patch". Follow the "Manual install and patch" instructions. Stop before applying the patch.

I was hoping for there to be a RAW image because my PS2 is a SCPH-39000 model, I dont know anyone who would have a modified PS2 or any place which sells PS2 memcards with freemcboot on it nor is there any Sony Compilation discs on sale here, is there a way to do it using something like the PCSX2, install PSBBN on there and then clone it to the HDD?

That's true but only if source HDD size was different than target HDD size and when user start modifying APA (adding partitions etc.). Reality is that users with non Japanese consoles and not original HDD and installer can do nothing about it. What left them are pre-made images. Or KrHACKen's SUDC3 as I heard.

Actually I start thinking of painless transmission these partitions to new drive. On Linux that will be doable I think, due to rsync and pfsshell. Minus issues related to IDPS and other IDs tied to DNAS (stuff tied to source console).

Good job. Have you made a tutorial on how to set that up?
Thank you.
There isn't a complete guide to get a setup the same as mine. If you go to the Internet Archive and search for "PlayStation Broadband Navigator (PSBBN) Definitive English Patch" by CosmicScale you will find a guide detailing how to install PSBBN. I've listed all the other software used for my setup in the video description, they all have guides out there on the internet.

If anybody want's help with something specific then just ask :)

Hello, I really appreciate your translation.

I have a working playstation with the BB navigator, and I can make the games to show in the collection (even with art and all), but I can't make them boot.
Can you detail your process to make a game bootable on the BB navigator please?

Edit: I got it working.
For anyone who is struggling like me, disable your modchip if your ps2 freezes launching a game from bb navigator.

Maybe this video can be more helpful:

In short OPL does not support Hard Drives with 4,096B sector size.

The "Konami Channel" now has a fresh English translation and new downloadable videos that more accurately represent the original downloads. Again, if you've already got PSBBN installed, just head to the Game Channel to check it out.

Czy można uruchomić PSBBN na adapterze Game Star?

Can you run PSBBN on a Game Star adapter?
