They actually do launch! Just not stable 30 fps something like 20 to 23!
Oh, okay, great ! So it's probably just Drakengard 3 that doesn't like it, then. I should've tested a few more games I guess, but it was late, and I didn't have enough energy left to deal with more potential freezes :')
Task completed! If my theory isn't wrong i could even go under 100 close to 50
Your PS3 right now :
I can only imagine how much you could undervolt the RSX at such low frequencies. 200 MHz core is already insane ! :0
As Charles_n_town said, if you really want to try going lower, do it at your own risk. Can't say it enough : I highly recommend having a flasher on hand.
It's definitely an interesting experiment, but I know how it feels to suddenly lose a console from messing with the frequencies, thinking everything will be fine. And, of course, without anything to save it. That happened to me when I first discovered this whole RSX overclocking thing.
It didn't discourage me from experimenting further, but it's still a painful experience...
But that's just how humanity works ! We (hopefully) learn from our mistakes.
i know overclocking can be cool and all that but I think it may falter the console's system and may cause a short-circuit or smth
OCing will inevitably shorten the lifespan of the RSX and other components, like the capacitors, due to exacerbated electromigration and the extra heat generated.
That said, the reduction in lifespan shouldn't be significant, especially if you're not increasing the voltage. Keep in mind that a PS3 will eventually fail with or without overclocking (like any electronic device) and even more so considering they weren't exactly built to last.
So, is sacrificing a bit of lifespan for better, more enjoyable moments on your PS3 worth it ? That's a personal choice. Everyone has a different tolerance for risk and it's ok. Just enjoy your console and your games, that's the most important !
But no, it won't cause a short or anything drastic like that
