PS1 ISO generation on PS3

Last night after finding the emulator choice button, I went to try a couple of the games I'd already tried with the default option in place. No difference in performance that I could see.

Then I went on to try a couple of games I hadn't tried yet. This took me on to trying Wip3out.

Has anyone else ever tried this game out on the PS3 (I'm sure the answer will be yes). That game crashes every time within seconds of starting a race, no matter the emulator at work. I've yet to try it running from the actual disc. Right now I'm still seeing a need to still have a working PS1.

There is config fixes if you are willing to convert your PS1 games to PS1 Classics using "pop-fe", it has config fixes for a lot of games, and also fixes a lot of crashes by converting CDDA audio to ATRAC, i think someone before has tested Wip3out and it worked with that, hopefully that will help for any games you are struggling with.

Thank you for this. Didn't even know this was a thing.

I take it this is the tool you're discussing?

There are some PS1 games that don't work on the PS3, not even from the game disc itself (like Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Ape Escape, Tomb Raider 2, just to name a few).

The only solution would be to use pop-fe as @Devildwarf mentioned before, as it allows the use of config files that tweak the internal emulator.

When you say
it allows the use of config files that tweak the internal emulator.

Does this mean you "tweak" the file during the file conversion, or once the converted file is copied on to the PS3?

it does everything it needs too and writes it into the PKG that it creates, then you install the PKG it makes onto your PS3.
It should do everything it needs to automatically, just feed it the cue/bin files you created on PC then there is a few optional extras you can choose in the program but mostly the default settings are fine and it will do the rest, It will detect if it needs to patch the game or not as its processing and do so in the PKG, it wont alter your cue/bin files at all, it makes a copy and does it all to that then once its done it cleans up and copies it makes, and just leaves a ps3 pkg,
Good luck with it and let us know how you get on.

This sounds amazing quite frankly! I'm excited to try it! So this is basically a tool to convert your PS1 disc games into a product resembling what Sony would have sold you as a package from the PS Store instead? ....and the result is something more compatible with the PS3!

yeah thats pretty much it, Ronnie did a great job on it. And still updates it often so if there is any issues he is usually pretty quick to fix it.

Just like PS2 Classics does. The PS1 Classics emulator loads the game, and applies any tweaks and settings that are present in the included config file.

The FW embeded PS1 emulator doesn't support config files, that's why you must use pop-fe in order to make a PS1 Classic PKG out of your ISO and custom config.

I know it's very cumbersome, but the PS3 in general only supported backwards compatibility during the launch and transition from sixth to seventh generation. After the transition was complete, Sony changed its business strategy and droped PS1 and PS2 support altogether in favor or PS1 and PS2 Classics (which in short means reselling your already owned games if you want to play them on your PS3).

They didn't even care about fully supporting PS1 games, something that is relatively simple by using custom configs for each incompatible game.

I will test a few games and report back my experience.

Might be a couple of days. I've got a busy calendar this week!

Out of interest. Is this tool only for PSone games, or does it do PS2 games too? If not, is there a requirement for a tool to be used for PS2 games too? If so, what is it?

pop-fe is only for PS1 games.

For PS2 games, it's better to use WebMAN MOD + PS2 Classics launcher + custom config files. This way doesn't require to build a PKG everytime you make changes to the config files.

What does Aldostools program do then? Just a GUI, or an auto configuration launch tool?

Got a link?

(I'll have to refer back to this thread when I'm ready to look at PS2 titles anyway. Not ready for those yet)

Aldotools program PS2 Classics GUI makes PS3 packages out of PS2 ISO's then you install the PKG to the PS3, then launch from the icon on the PS3 menu like official games do, its fairly simple to use, you encrypt the ISO into the PS2 format for PS3 then you can choose the icons and stuff then and pick a CONFIG and create the PKG (configs are used to fix or make a game playable, some games still have issues though so don't expect 100% compatability unless you have a backwards compat PS3).
And you can get it from the resources section of this site.

Right. I've got a little time now, an downloaded this recommended tool to try out. I've immediately turned into a noob again, because I need guidance on what to do with all this files now. The instructions don't properly advise what to do with this lot. Are these installation files? Do i double click on ALL the .exe files? In a particular order?

Ok first you only need
pop-fe-ps3.exe
This is because the others are run when they are needed or are for making PSP PS1 packages, so you can ignore the rest. (DONT delete them, some still get run but automatically from Pop-fe when they are needed)
Once you run it, you will be presented with a box, under Discs click the Play button and find your games bin/cue and click on the CUE file to open it in PopFe, if there are multiple discs then add those too on the next line, it should auto fill the other boxes if you are on the internet (it pics box art and things automatically, but you can change it if you are not happy with its choices), Then in the bottom left select where you want the PKG to be saved too, then click any boxes you want for the options (if you are unsure just dont tick any for now, you can always remake the PKG later if you feel a option there would help) then click Create PKG and let it do its thing, it will do a lot of stuff you probably wont understand then it will throw out a box when its done to say its done and you can then install the PKG on your PS3.

@Devildwarf thanks for that. I had quick go before bed, and had some difficulty. First off, I tried MotorToon GP 2. The software recognises this as MotorToon, not the sequel. When I tried to create the package it returned an error in the black window. Can't remember what it said now.

Then I quickly tried Resident Evil 2. I have named my RE:2 bin files to be able to identify which is the Leon disc and which is the Claire disc. In fact I've renamed a lot of the games I've converted into a name which pleases me more, for whatever reason. When I tried RE: Leon, in the black window, it gave an error saying that it couldn't find "Resident Evil 2.bin" which I'm guessing was the original disc name before i identified it differently. I take it me renaming all my .bin files is a no-no for this software now?

OK without the error im not sure if i can help with the first part, but the 2nd part you are getting errors because the .CUE file is probably still pointing towards the old filename, if you open up the .CUE file in any kind of text editor (Notepad for example) you will see the filename in there, change it to whatever you renamed it too, OR redump the game using imgburn but pick the name correctly as you make the image so its already correct.
