Ps1 scph-1001 disc drive

So probably a stupid question. But has anyone ever replaced the drive with a slot style disc drive? I tried to do some searching but came up with nothing. Like I said probably stupid question. I only ask because I want to put mine into a enclosure that matches my current stereo. And I don't have room to have one with a top that opens.
