PS3 Ps3 blu ray PCB drive repair

hello there

I recently bought two PS3 CECHG04. In one console, the blye ray drive is broken.

Damaged drive can easily pick up and return discs. You can hear the disc spinning but not being detected by the system.
I took apart the damaged drive and did not notice any damage.

I already thought that the microprocessor exploded and you can see the golden foundation as in the picture. Then I checked it was normal.

Because I had a second drive - I switched the PCB between the drives and it turned out that the drive is working properly. Something is wrong with the PCB ....
Can I ask for a service manual, what should I check on the PCB to check what is damaged? I don't know where the important elements on the PCB are.

Thank you for the site. I've seen it before and learned that the drive is present in the CECHAxx - CECHGxx consoles.

But only now I noticed that the site describes the type of daughterboard: BMD-001.

I need to read more about BMD-001. Maybe I can find a service manual step by step.

I saw a daughterboard on ebay for $ 9 - very expensive. It will be cheaper to install CFW and upload games with a flash drive.

EDIT:
ok, I found the circuit diagram. It promises to be interesting fun with a multimeter ....

On the page you gave above (psdevwiki) I found the text:
"Remarry BluRay drive
BluRay drive daughterboard is paired with PS3 motherboard, so exchanging a BluRay drive requires remarriage of the BluRay daughterboard. See: Remarry Bluray Drive"

does this mean that BMD-001 is paired with a specific console? - is this the solution to the problem?
The drive I'm trying to fix comes from a second console that doesn't boot because of YLOD.Today I will exchange NEC / TOKIN and then I will test the drive on a dedicated console.

Ahhhhh, I understand a little better now.

Bluray daughterboards are married to their console. So just swapping them will not work.

You have to have CFW installed to be able to access Factory Service Mode (FSM), then you can remarry the daughterboards to the console.

Forgive me for wasting your time. The problem is really banal.
I have been dealing with PS3 for 4 days - I've never played a game in my life and didn't have a console.

After finding information about Remarry, I began to understand what was going on.
Can I ask you about the simplest instruction on how to perform Remarry?
Can I have CFW 4.86 or is 3.55 necessary?

If your ps3 is a CFW compatible model, there is no need for downgrade. This is the old way of doing things.

New exploit is PS3ToolSet. This works on latest firmware.
Im super busy, so I don't have the time to dig up the tutorials you need.

Search the forums for "Ps3 Toolset" and "bluray remarry" for tutorials

I'm so stupid ...
Such a trivial problem, and I lost yesterday all day by disassembling drives ....

Sorry for the inconvenience - I'm looking for a tutorial

@inazuma-akai first of all, in the console with the dead bluray, can you launch installed apps on hdd? any app will do, youtube, netflix, psn... If it launches okay it is NOT a dead blu ray board, if it hangs on a black screen you will need to change it

Thanks, I will know for the future. Earlier I couldn't check the black screen with applications because I had YLOD
The console is running and everything is working properly.
As I mentioned - it is all new to me, sorry ...

Ok to help you with this follow this carefully:

1. Put the original PCB back into the blue ray drive doesnt matter that the actual drive is broken just need the old PCB to be active
2. Search for 'bgtoolset ps3' (can't add links here) - your model is exploitable so follow the guide to get your PS3 patched to allow CFW
This step is important as you cant remarry on original firmware!

The latest firmware 4.86 is patchable so you patch it and install a CFW. Due to your situation try and find a noBD firmware for your running firmware version as it will stop the black screen issues and install problems.

If the blue ray pcb logic is totally dead then you will need to find the CFW noblue ray firmware to install once you have patched your console - this firmware allows you to get the root key you need to be able to remarry a new PCB - find 'Rebug firmwares'

Assume you are using the Rebug firmware and installed correctly after patching i.e. gone to bgtoolset and done that procedure!!!

Once booted in the Rebug firmware, install their toolbox as we need to grab the root key - search google for rebug root key
This will save a root key to the local disk of the PS3, you need to copy this to a usb stick - install multiman to do this on the ps3 itself

You can find the 'FSM mode' in the Network, advanced tools section on the XMB - google for examples

Swap the pcb around, plug the drive back in and turn on. Now make the console go into FSM mode as explained from a google article

Once your console has reset and booted up, the screen will be in low resoultion mode and should say fsm mode, DO NOT do any firmware updates or you will brick your console in this mode!!! - you are only here to remarry the blue ray

A good remarry will say 'cex init succeed', if it fails make sure your pcb is compatible to the drive your connecting it to not all pcb will work based on motherboard and drive - the blue ray article as posted above will tell you that

So once your remarry is success, Get a movie blue ray disc and insert into the drive so it can rehash crc checks its needs. then
make the ps3 back to normal mode - 'FSM mode' in the Network, advanced tools section on the XMB

Once booted up in normal mode, put a game in and see if it works!

Hey,

Sorry to exhume that post, but entered an approximately similar issue.

Got a non-working console. On the bluray PCB the ribon connector was totally crashed.. I decided to replace it
to avoid to do that remarry.

Things are it doesn't work.. It takes the disk, the disk spins and nothing in XMB, the same for others spare drives I got.

Also the PSU was not the right one, so I wonder if the drive I got is actually the one which was married to the console,
how can we check that?

Are the audio CD detected or some such? Or it just spin and nothing detected?

Cheers!
