I don't want to sound overly harsh, you are a new member so this is not a personal attack, only an attempt to balance out the argument you make somewhat, keeping in mind that I myself walked out on HEN development before the initial public release, I wrote parts of the source code but I played no part in the putting together of the current tools.
It's true, ps3 hen is far from perfect, nobody ever claimed it was, the team released their work as a favour to the community because there were & still are no alternative jailbreak solution on superslims, the team that released it had absolutely nothing to gain from it, quite the opposite in practice actually.
Among other things there is the exploit initialization bug (easy to workaround if you bother looking how to do that), the installation process is a little cumbersome & most homebrews out there were made for CFW, not for HEN & its limited jailbreak, which de facto creates a few issues here & there.
I dunno what dev you deem unfriendly, afaik there was only one person from the team who took care of HEN tech support & maintenance, he has been unavailable for the past few months for personal reasons.
But before throwing the baby out with the bath water, anyone unhappy with the situation should probably ask themselves:
What is the extent of my own investment/commitment in this community?
And if I haven't contributed a thing, no free time, no code, no skills, no donations etc.., then do I really feel I can legitimately expect anything at all from anyone?
It is worth noting that some people have invested hundreds or thousands of hours worth of free time into hardware research, reverse engineering, coding & support over the years, it is ironic that their combined expectations about the quality of the work of others do not measure up with those expressed in your argument.
Moreover the entire HEN source code has always been open & available to the public for years now, anyone could have improved it so really who is to blame for the current bugs?
Anyway in coming months, new HEN tools will be released, some of the bugs you mentioned have already been ironed out privately a while ago, the fixes have not been rolled out simply because the people who could do it have been busy with their lives!
As to the HEN payload, I would only point out that it is just a limited version of the Cobra payload which has been used on CFW for years, the source is basically the same with some parts commented out, any weakness in that code would also be a weakness in Cobra. Again that source is open, anyone is welcome to improve it.
