PS3 PS3 Jailbreak

Hello!
My ps3 when I turn it on says this.
The system software cannot be run correctly press the PS button to try restart the system.
If the system cannot be restarted, you must reinstall the system software.
Connect storage media that contains update data of version 4.90 or later, and then press the start and select buttons at the same time.
I do that but then it says "No applicable update data was found." What do I do? I want to save my ps3. I don't know any of the complex stuff such as OFW, CFW, DEX, CEX, PUP, etc. Explanation would be very helpful.

OFW
OFW stands for official firmware. Official firmware is put out by Sony themselves, and that's what you update to when you are prompted to update in order to play SEN. OFW can be modded, which then turns to MFW, or CFW.

CFW
CFW stands for custom firmware. Most of the time you see a CFW, especially for newer firmwares above 3.55, they are a spoof. A spoof adds access to SEN when your console is on a lower firmware, such as 3.55, it "tricks" your system into thinking it is on a higher firmware to access SEN. If you hear people claiming there is a new CFW for SEN, they are lying. Jailbreaking cannot be applied above 3.55.

DEX
Here's where it gets good. DEX stands for developer/debug firmware. This is what developers use to develop new apps, new games, and even new features. Alas, a setback is that DEX firmware does not allow SEN access. It disables it.

CEX
CEX simply means retail. When you hear CEX to DEX, that means retail to developer. It also is the same as CFW, just a different name.

PUP
A PUP file is a file or patch used to update the PlayStation 3 (PS3) system software. It may include security patches, bug fixes, and extra operating system features. for PUP files to be recognized on the PlayStation 3, you must have a FAT32 formatted USB drive on MBR with a file named PS3UPDAT.PUP in the directory PS3/UPDATE.

CFW generally are not spoofed. They are built using the files from the corresponding firmware version with a few core files patched with 3.55 code.

One exception is 4.90 PEX that includes some files from 4.84 DEX spoofed as 4.90.

The spoofing patches only a few files to allow access to SEN/PSN. The rest of the firmware is an older version, but not 3.55 unless you're talking of 3.55 custom firmwares.

CEX
CEX simply means retail. When you hear CEX to DEX, that means retail to developer. It also is the same as CFW, just a different name.

That is incorrect, CEX refers to Retail firmware.
4.90 Official Firmware released on retail console's is a CEX firmware for example. That does not mean its a Custom Firmware.

Official Firmware types
CEX= Retail Firmware
DEX=Debug Firmware
SEX= Shop/Kiosk Firmware

Community Created Firmware Types.
REX (created by Team Rebug) = This is a hybrid firmware of CEX / DEX with CFW patches.
PEX (created by evilnat) = This is like REX but this is 4.84 (DEX) and 4.90 (CEX) . There is no DEX (debug) firmware available above 4.84. so for use in 4.90 for a REX style hybrid 4.84 had to be ported and that is how we have the PEX type of firmware

you can, but you need hardware flasher (hard to find and install) or a software solution (bgtoolset if free). below 3.56, you can simply install cfw pup without jailbreaking first.
You can do this via 3.55 firmware but if updated then you need bgtoolset or HFW flash writer 4.90 (alternative but requires 4.90 HFW installed)
HFW flash writer requires 3.56 or below
However 3.60 or higher is 100% non CFW until lv0ldr.2 keys are public.

1-First you need to prepare a pendrive formatted in FAT32 MBR. It will not work with any other format (NTFS, exFAT, APFS, etc.)

2-Create a PS3 in the root directory of the pendrive. Then create an UPDATE folder and copy inside the PS3UPDAT.PUP from the official firmware 4.90

X:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP <= This is the full path that you be found in the pendrive (X: can be a different drive letter)

!! IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT ALL THE LETTERS IN THE PATH ARE IN UPPER CASE !!

3- Eject any PS3 disc inserted and remove all USB devices. Connect only the pendrive.

It is important that you eject any PS3 disc. The system may want to install the old UPDATE in that disc.

4- Enter to recovery menu and perform a System Update. (option 6)

To enter to this menu:
  1. Hold down the power button and wait for your PS3 to turn on and back off. Release the power button.
  2. Hold the power button again until you hear a quick double beep. ...
  3. Plug in your controller and press the PS button.
________

5- Once you get the official firmware installed and running you have 2 options:
  1. Jailbreak your console if it is custom firmware compatible (only fat models or slim models 20xx, 21xx and some 25xx)
  2. Install PS3HEN (all PS3 models are compatible with HEN, including superslims, all slims 25xx and 30xx)

To Jailbreak you PS3 using http://ps3toolset.com/bgtoolset follow this guide:
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/guide-jailbreaking-with-bgtoolset.33461/

After you have patched flash memory on your PS3, you will need to install Evilnat 4.90 Cobra 8.4 [PEX] from:
https://mega.nz/folder/oV93nACL#MGK4ajtgpT5EBrBL8yjvRg/folder/UJ1ERZ7B

To install PS3HEN follow this guide:

You first have to install HFW 4.90 from:
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/hfw-4-90-1-hybrid-firmware.39758/

Then install PS3HEN from https://www.ps3xploit.me (DO NOT USE UNOFFICIAL CLONE SITES)
