PS3 PS3 Jailbroken HDD UPGRADE HOW?

ITS NOW TO UPGRADE THE HDD of ps3 which is jailbroken on CFW 4.82 CONSOLE
anybody knows how to upgrade and what steps i should follow.
?

Basically put, you just swap the HDD over. IF your PS3 is NAND model it will not ask for a FW install afterwards, if it is a NOR model PS3 it will ask you to re-install the 4.82 CFW you have, or you could install a newer CFW version if you wish to do so.

If you have anything like saves or anything else you wish to backup to an external USB device or FTP to your PC before you do so, then when you have installed the new HDD and your Homebrew you use you can then transfer them back to the PS3.

NAND model PS3's are: PHATS CECH A, B, C, G, E < These will not ask for a Firmware install after swapping the HDD

NOR Models are: PHATS CECH H, J, K, L, M, P, Q and Slims CECH2000, 2100, 2500 < These WILL ask for Firmware install after swapping the HDD.

If you have access to a desktop, one of the ways to copy all your data quickly is to make a clone your PS3's drive sector-by-sector to a new one (assuming the size of the new one is equal or greater).
 
So It's possible to clone the old hard drive to a larger hard drive and expand the storage that way?

Thanks for the clarification on this topic.

Just one more thing, is this method legit? It looks like there is a tool in settings called Debug Settings > Debug for HDD exchange utility and that seems to allow you to upgrade. The only difference is it that I have a Phat A01 to his slim that's in the video.

It's way easier to use @Berion's tutorial for HDD mounting in order to copy all the data to your PC HDD, install the new HDD and the FW, and then copy all the data back to your PS3 via FTP or USB, than using the debug HDD transfer feature.

It's cumbersome and requires some knowledge, but way more complete than PS3's backup tool (which doesn't backup importante things).
 
I'm not sure if that's copy is complete mirror of data on disk. Not to mention, debug VSH is needed (because it is DEX fw feature, simplifying data migration from one disk to another on debug kits, for game developers).

It is still better to make copy by hand IMO because it is You who choosing what to backup. And by hand, You can use my guide linked earlier, called Ultimate UserData Backup. In addition, use Apollo SaveData Tool for licenses exporting (ReActPsn is less intuitive).

How You access to data is Your choice. Can be on PC with Linux (via bswap16-ecb or PS3 HDD Reader), on PC with Windows 7 or newer (via PS3 HDD Reader), or on PS3 using file manager build in eg. multiMAN or via FTP connection. Access on PC demanding from You ERK (EID Root Key) dumping which is not currently possible on HEN (CFW is needed), and that's because decryption keys are generating from it, while ERK itself is unique to each PS3 unit.

I recommend Linux way with bswap-ecb (and my toolkit which automatize it) because it is reliable and user getting response on each stage why something doesn't work (if doesn't work). You don't need to install it, just download Linux Mint disc image, put it on USB by Rufus (with checked checkbox for partition preservation, You will not loose changes, but USB 3.0 is needed for comfortable usage) and run it on PC. Nothing been installed on Your HDD/SSD, all works from USB and RAM.

Trophies, RIF files, act.dat, PSN account info, are surely not migrated using DEX HDD upgrade tool. Also, as @Berion said, you need to be on DEX mode.

According to the video the backup and restoration process took over 9 hours (which is insane and prone to errors). Picking up by hand what you want to migrate and what you don't (specially act.dat, trophies, RIF files and savegames), it is faster and easier.
 
I'm not too sure if it's a complete mirror either and after reading the comments I see some people experienced difficulties.

I would prefer the safest copy and by hand would seem like so.

Okay, so Linux Mint is bootable from a USB, that's convenient. BTW where do I find your toolkit?

I concur, much faster and safer. Game save data is priority along with safety I don't want to donk anything up.

Forgot to mention: do not use Backuper script, it wasn't well tested. Just copy chosen files by hand in file manager.

Majority if not all Linuxes works from USB. ;) Depend of how it was made, it is full disc image or kernel+archive with fs which goes to fully or partially in RAM (in case of Mint 21.2, You need 3GiB or more to be fully works from there) Home dir which is equivalent of Documents & Settings in Windows, can be mounted from image and all changes can be written to that image - but that's not mandatory, however, without it all changes be gone when You turn off computer (because everything will be in RAM including "/home").

I was thinking about making some tutorial for preparing Linux on USB, running it etc. for people who never use any Linux and which more afraid of it than they should be. ;p However, almost no one care about Linux so I'm not sure if it wouldn't be just waste of time. :/

True. TBH the last time I used Linux was on the PS3, Yellow Dog Linux.

If you are having troubles with ERK, Linux and mounting the PS3 HDD, you can use an FTP client to connect to your PS3 (WebMAN MOD includes the server out of the box).

FTP is very slow, but at least you can have direct access to the HDD. It even works with HEN.
 
FTP is slow, but reliable(sometimes) and even with all this information, indeed it seems very over cumbersome just to get a larger hard disk installed because from what I have seen so far there is a lot of explanation, but no step by step guide on how to.
Let me try to simplify it.. Ahem... Do I transfer using FTP literally just everything, highlight all and transfer to the new hard drive? lol

No, that's not how PS3 works.

You first need to copy all the data that you want to transfer to a temp HDD or USB stick. Then you need to install the new HDD on your PS3 and install the proper FW. Once you are done, jailbreak your console (if needed), install WebMAN MOD and start transfering back your backed up data.

I was reading some comments from people said they bricked their ps3 just by putting in a new hard disk; So for clarification purposes would that be because they failed for install the "proper FirmWare" as in official FW Via USB and then fallow the same steps as I did when I first JB the PS3?
