PS3 SLIM 2504B - 3 different HDDs extremely slow.

Hello,

I have this issue I have been experiencing for some time now, literally pulling my hair out to fix.
My PS3 seems to be struggling to keep up with loading various assets in some of the most demanding games (doesn't matter if it's a digital version from PSN or a copy loaded through multiman)

For example in GTA V while driving a car an entire chunk of the city fails to load resulting in me driving on a blank space.
In TLOU I experience lack of sound effects during fights or the entire cutscenes being mute.
GT6 - stuttering during intro videos, also sound cracks during race.
Killzone 3 - dialogues between characters repeating themselves multiple times, low quality textures for a few seconds.

All things above happen on 3 different HDD in the same manner.
Original 11 years old TOSHIBA MK3265GSX 320GB 5400 rpm that came with the PS3 (18 ms access time | 77mb/s transfer rate)*
8 years old WDC WD7500BPVT-24HXZT3 750GB 5400 rpm (17.8 ms | 80mb/s)
My recent purchase 5 years old WD BLACK 7500BPKT 750GB 7200 rpm (16 ms | 110 mb/s)

*benchmarks provided by hd tune

The same HDDs have also been tested in intensive PC games showing 0 issues with loadings or movies.

The system is an 11 years old SLIM 2504b running EVILNAT 4.88.2 with COBRA 8.3 CFW.
Max temperatures during TLOU: 67 CELL / 68 RSX at 31% Fan speed.
~650GB free space during testing

What could be causing this? Some kind of broken component? CFW?

I have the same model and at 33% fan I am only 73 degrees and been this way for more then 4 years same temps. Seems kind high to me even running those games. My phat models run cooler temps then you posted running those same games as I did a stress test between my 2501A and a CECHB-01 model. Wish I could be of more help.

try playing Beyond two souls with the game dumped internally. My experience with this game when I swapped a brand new 1TB HDD back then is basically the game is unplayable, texture, assets fails to load and cause all funny and funky things to happen. this is a known good game dump I transfer from my NAS to that PS3 with 1TB HDD.

of course putting back the old 160GB HDD have zero issues with the same game.

its a 1TB Seagate Mobile HDD (ST1000LM035).

I also tried another 1TB HDD, but this time that came with my Slim PS4 (upgraded to 2TB) and that HDD works fine. Its a Toshiba 1TB HDD. I tried Beyond two souls on this HDD and it doesnt inherit the issue that seagate 1tb hdd have, just to be sure its not fluke, I give 1tb seagate mobile drive a another shot, and yep, its still the god damn issue. I dont know why....

and for some people saying that 1TB seagate hdd is broken, nope, it actually pass a full surface scan with literally zero bad sectors, 100% health and performance with HD sentinel.

@remlei Maybe those HDDs goes to quickly to sleep and/or very often parking heads. Compare those values from 'working' and 'not working' HDDs. Just blind shot.

Try Rebuild database
This will not help. Games accessing files from fs level, not higher abstract level like databases (which anyway, doesn't contains anything more than meta data in case of games, mostly from theirs PARAM.SFO).

This doesn't matter. It will not solve read speed if it this issue was on PS3 side. And if SATA port would be dirty, disk would be not recognized at all or randomly loosing connection, not loosing read speed.

Mine it's only a little advice. A little check for a dirty data port in any case it's free
