PS3 slim fan speed

Making a big hole (or several small holes) on top of the PS3 well aligned with the center of the fan for sure will help cooling
I guess the results are going to be very close to running the PS3 without the top case cover (this reduces temperatures a lot)
But imo is going to look a bit ugly
Nice Job with table, I am glad for been helpful :)

And I thought to drill only couple very small holes, lets say 12x3mm holes (or even smaller holes 1mm). It would be almost invisible :) and do the job. But I'm concerned that Sony intentionally made this kind of design so that air intakes are on the bottom side of PS3 and fresh air then cools whole motherboard as it pass over metal shield that covers motherboard!? But on the other hand if I drill holes both chips will be cooler than the rest of the motherboard will be cooler also!? What do you think about this?

i agree with Ali there thoes temps are allmost good for an A and B model but for a slim its tterrible since the chipz are smaller theres also a smaller fan for the console ;) and i suggest you to get 40 or maybe 50% fanspeed goin if that isnt too loud for ya, 40% is just more chilly for it >)
uff 40%, I could not stand that level of noise :) My goal is to make almost silent PS3 with cooling up to 70C in games on both chips :) Without top case PS3 run like that and even better, in uncharted 2 61/61 with fan at 25% and it is almost silent.

oh thoes silentppl nowa dayz >I come on dude do you want a broken console or a working one? working one o_O? then turn the fan up and dont be a dick, plug in headphones :P
70c on both chips O_O? are you craze? >O
65-65 is okay i got 63-52 after 4 hours on my old 60gig peace of niceness and you want to be on 70 both? u can trow your baby away when having 70° on both chips for long time >(

I had 2504b with syscon control, never use any fan control app, and temps were like that maybe even little higher for about 8 years, no problems at all, I sell it. I bought this one that also had higher temps, on rsx even up to 75C, and I bet it is old like my past model 8 years maybe.

cuz u had a good one dmr >))

but that one now dude it isnt good for it, PASTA :D trust me :*
if it got 70 on both chips u cant do ,,allmost silent'' no there is no way arround on loud rather loud or at least a lil bit louder ^.^ then ylod :D

There is way, drilling holes above fan :) Anyway, I almost 80% time on PS3 watch movies via movian, so I really want silent PS3 :)

cuz u rather reball or only change that thermalpaste on the top it will never be good, have u anyknowledge abaut the ps3? i mean omg and want to tell me some ^_^ gosh hehe xD

go ahead for 25, have fun getting the YLOD its only 5% faster than on an OFW hahaha are u serious? xD

25 is just like if u would unplug the fan xDDD

i mean see, give tha ps3 what it needs and not what you want, then itz fine u get used to louder things i mean think about it, they are fuckin olyd, there is no silent anymore :P back in the ps2 dayz there was :* and we all loved it but ps3 is yeah actually a bit shitty made for it to be like a gaming PC, nice, cool and quiet, there is no way i also want it to be silent but its not possible ;) and 34% is really not lound iu mean dont tell me this is loud, if it is you will die on the new years eve >I

im a bit yeah cuz im shocked not hatingn dude but this was just weird and funny, did u wanted this ? ^^
i mean i could laugh a bit :D

34% on fat and on slim is not same, and without top cover I had 25% and 61/61 in uncharted 2 so that is 55/55 in xmb, or lower, at 20% :D

Yo i never said that u were wrong on the case itz good to drill holez like craze, every ps3 loves that like imagine u wear one of thoez T Schirts with the lil holes in them, i dont know the name now but u get what i mean, appling that same to the ps3 is awesome and also lookz nize:rolleyes2:

@C7TJFVB7-CAZ dont laught so much, some of the things you said are also laughable, before making jokes you should read what has been commented in the thread because it looks there are some details you are not getting
Without further info of the conditions where that screenshot was taken... the only thing that proves that screencapture is that you have a problem in CELL ;)
As mentioned before it doesnt matters how many hours you was playing, what matters is if the values was "captured" when the temperatures was at one of the "heat peaks" because this "heat peaks" represents the max
Otherway, if you take a screenshot in a random point of the game (or after quitting the game), or before the PS3 has warmed up... what you see in screen is not realistic

Are you sure the values in your screenshot was realistic ?... because if you are not sure doesnt means anything, it will make you feel better like a placebo but is not real

EDIT: Ok found good thread http://www.psx-place.com/threads/holes-on-ps3.13232/

Maybe best mod is to make current holes bigger to get better airflow
Most of that holes are a bit "blocked", remove the top cover of the case (with all other parts in place) and see how much "holes" you see
You have been cleaning up the PS3 from dust... but this can be seen better when there is dust, by looking at where the dust is cummulated you can deduce how the air moves :)

The holes from the perimeter that has a better airflow intake are the ones closer to the fan, specially in the front (under that 2 metal pieces for the wifi/bt antennas), this area allows to pass the air very well, so the PS3 "sucks" air from here very well
At the other side of the front is the bluray drive (so there are no more holes in the front)

The right border is half blocked by the bluray drive too, it has holes all along the right line and works (you will find dust in them, in the same amount than the left side). At right-back there is an empty area though, but is too far away from the fan

And left border is mostly blocked too, im looking at my PS3 right now to see how many dust has been cmmulated (after 3 years of use or so without opening) and i think left border and right borders has the same amount of dust. So yeah... all that holes at the border are working as intended, but is a bit "meh"

And... is not worthy to make bigger holes at the sides, is hard to explain why im saying this (is needed a drawing to explain it)... but by looking at them i can see is not so easy (everything depends of how you make them of course, lol). The point is... to make the holes at the sides bigger you are going to need to remove lot of plastic (probably more than you think right now), and imo is not going to have an aceptable finishing

The holes at the front are a different history though, hmmm... i never thought in this but looks like a good idea
And are different than the holes at the sides (this is another thing hard to explain, needs a drawing), and im realizing right now that allows to make them bigger (by removing only a bit of plastic and doing it in a easy way)
Actually... im thinking in the metal pieces of the antennas located exactly over this holes and are blocking a bit the airflow, i guess moving that metal plates antennas to other place (or rotating them) could have a good effect
But if you decide to do this keep in mind the geometrical shape of that metal plate antennas should not be changed ! (so dont bend them, and dont crop/saw them)
The geometry of the antenna is what creates the wireless waves... by changing them you could decrease the wireless intensity or frequency, and is going to have problems connecting wireless to wifi/bt
