PS3HEN PS3HEN - Official Release Thread (Homebrew Enabler for the PS3) v3.5.0 (4.93 support)

I just have a question since I noticed this thread is still active. Is it possible to play games on external USB? I've tried NTFS and FAT32. Webman sees them in both cases but when launched it freezes and I have to unplug it to power it off.
Hello mate. Yes you can. You must make sure you have the latest version of HEN installed as well as the latest version of WebMAN mod. Personally I recommend the NTFS format for external hard drives, which would avoid splitting game files that exceed 4 GB. I also recommend the ISO format for games, since they have greater compatibility than the folder format. The errors you have may be because the game files are damaged.

Hi guys, I keep getting "HEN Failure! Restart PS3 and retry! PS3HEN.BIN missing copy to usb000 (last port near blu ray drive of ps3)." Restarting doesn't fit ix - the alternate installer fails as well. I have the superslim ps3 with the latest 4.85 update installed. What am i missing?

Did you turn confirm browser close off? If not it will fail every time. Open browser, hit triangle, go to tools, and turn off confirm browser close.

I've got it all figured out now, however I can't use NTFS. When I use NTFS webman recognizes them but they fail to load correctly. FAT32 works perfect though, I did have to use gsplits on a couple of files to get them under the 4Gb limit. When I originally posted I was trying to launch them from a 64G USB stick. It wouldn't work at all, but when I grabbed a 500G Sata drive, it worked.

Is rare. I use an HDD of 1Tb capacity in NTFS format without any problem. I load the backups of games in ISO format and so far I had no problem, except for random console crashes. I imagine they must be compatibility issues of WebMAN mod or even HEN. Issues that will be solved in future updates. Greetings.

another weird issue with HEN again:

there's a high chance of the HEN fail to work if you have background downloads so make sure to pause it, else the chance it will fail is more like 85% chance.

once HEN is enabled, dont continue your downloads yet, just run a game or homebrew first before continuing the download or else, you will experience black screen issue pretty much guaranteed.

been using PKGi and qued a lot of download to background downloads and this blackscreen/hen fail issues were more frequent than usual (much more frequent actually not until you pause your downloads when enabling HEN and run a game).

This is because when HEN is enabled it patches the download_plugin.sprx with 6 patches> 2 from the PS3Xploit team and 4 advanced download patches from devil303's extended download plugin.

This has been in HEN since v2.0.1 Beta. So enable HEN before or after downloading things not in the middle of a download.

Hi all,

I am new to this, and trying to follow directions. So what does this mean?

2) CONNECTION TO PSN SHOULD BE DONE AT YOUR OWN RISK. DISABLING CFW SYSCALLS MAY NOT HIDE YOUR HEN WHILE ON PSN (a popular method used by CFW user's may not be suited for PS3HEN user's)

I mean, isn't the PS3 always connected to PSN?
Or is it referring to playing online on the PSN?

If someone has already asked the question and I could not find it, I apologize, but this is 171 pages long |:

Thanks in advance.

It refers to signing in to PSN while an exploit is enabled, as we do not know what Sony can see, which naturally poses a ban risk as they have a zero tolerance policy of modified consoles being on the network. PSN is only 'always' connected if you have auto-sign in enabled.

On CFW, there are homebrew such as PSNpatch designed to help minimise the ban risk by removing CFW history and preventing CFW syscalls (functions) being run (until next reboot). This essentially makes the console look like it's running OFW, and so theoretically it doesn't raise red flags while online.

As they were not designed with HEN in mind, their efficacy is unknown and so using them may in fact do more harm than good. It really is a 'do so at your own risk' sort of situation.

I'm not sure if anyone else has this issue, but one thing I've noticed is that whenever I play a PS2 Classics game on my Super slim when I get back to the XMB I no longer have internet. Doesn't matter if it's WiFi or hardlined. I have the exact same setup on a PHAT and it doesn't do that. Very small bug, hopefully in a future release it can be solved. Not sure if it's a HEN issue, a PS2 Classics issue, or a hardware issue, though.

Since I brought it up, I also wanted to thank you. I tried a few CFW's on my Phat recently and I honestly put HFW and HEN back on it. It IMO is superior to at least the CFW's I tried.

I'm sorry to be a bother but I have a couple of questions to ask.
If I was to rip my own copy and convert it to an ISO, will I still be able to download the latest patch for that game through PSN in that ISO form? Since the PS5 will soon be among us. I want to make sure, that I'll able to download the latest patches before the servers officially shutdown for good. Lastly is there any hope that sometime in the future, I'll be able to play my PSN purchased games?

It should let you update no problem. I actually keep my games in folder form instead of ISO, but since the game update is installed to dev_hdd0/game/(your game) and your ISO/folder game should be in either dev_hdd0/GAMES or dev_hdd0/PS3ISO, it should have no problems.

HEN better than CFW? yeah keep trying lol

What are you running? I tried Rebug Lite 4.85 and Ferrox 4.84. Both were pretty much the same. The only thing I don't like about HEN is actually having to turn it on all the time, but with CFW I still had to toggle dev_blind so it didn't save me a step. Lol. Also what is the point of the ps3home/game directory in the game section of the XMB? Anytime I would click it it would throw an error. What can CFW do that HEN can't, I guess is my question? I come from Android development and have only just got into modding PS3.

You guys know how you can download HEN themes from HFW settings? Who would I talk to about adding a package of my themes and making them available for download straight from the console? I have 4 themes currently and a return to stock, but plan to make a few more. It wouldn't be too hard to package them all up and have them installed to hen/themes where people can change them on the fly.

Use webMAN to enable dev_blind on boot of the PS3 so you never have to enable it again as it will always be enabled on boot on CFW.

A lot of things cannot be done by HEN that CFW can do, there is a lot of info on this site regarding things like this.

I know this isn't the right thread for this, but wanted to mention it. I decided to try CFW again. I installed Rebug 4.84 and was starting to like it. Then I noticed two folders in the PSN category. I clicked on one and it started to install an update but stopped at 50%. I was put into a update boot loop and had to reformat my HDD. I had 290G worth of shit on there! Frustrating...

Hello mate. It is always convenient to use an external HDD (in NTFS or FAT32 format), and run the games from there, either in ISO format or folder. Personally I suggest ISO. This is valid for both HEN and CFW, using WebMAN MOD for example. If you need to format the console HDD, you would lose very little. Greetings.
