PSX-Place Town Square - "This thread improves the quality of the forum performance."

Basically the general discussion thread. I dunno, I keep taking threads offtopic so its maybe easier if I just post here, and offtopic is dead. The title is subject to change, mods can change the (sub)title to whatever that they feel like, whether that's aimed to increase the likelihood of discussion, refer to something that's happened in this thread or the scene, or life in general, or what.

So uh, anyone else getting a bit tired of the constant hype around AI? I constantly hear this and that and this and that about it but I just can't be bothered to care when every other day it feels like there's a new breakthrough and then everyone's flocking to whatever cool SaaS AI service is out there, and then within two days its either behind a paywall or getting censored for mainstream Western left-wing media narrative purpose (see: ChatGPT, DALL-E), and the cycle just repeats.

To me AI is and always will be just that thing strung on a rubberband that rams me in the back of my arse in Gran Turismo instead of bloody overtaking like it bloody well should. At least, that's the only AI I care about.

Is just a marketing label to create hype, pretty much the same than the chatbots that existed decades ago, the only difference is this new ones are way better
Im used to them because years ago i used to enter IRC channels with chatbots, the humoristic chatbots are very funny (really i guess a humoristic chatbot based in chatGPT could be the best comedian ever, lol), and there are others intended to give a technical service that are very useful

Just to show you an example related with playstation scene, can you imagine a chatbot based in chatGPT with the whole psdevwiki memorized ?, you can ask questions and the bot "serves" the info from psdevwiki in a friendly way
It have lot of potential, it could even beat humans because it could be able to detect mistakes in psdevwiki or even rewrite descriptions of wiki pages and became the best wiki editor ever, lol (of course, supervised by human/s)

Given the fact ChatGPT's developers decided it was a really good idea to give it a political bias I doubt that I could trust it to anymore, but the potential was there at some point. But yeah, you bring up a good point about the term "AI" being used in an overly generic manner, I guess I'm just tired of hearing it all over the place. Chatbots are also kinda eh, I associate them with those annoying things you see on some websites that just pop up in your face without you asking... if, and if it could actually avoid being hardcoded to be politically woke, I'd like to see a chatbot that could generate Neptunia scenarios just because why not. LOL.

On a note, Discord's update to its privacy policy has silently omitted the clause about not generally recording calls. I'm honestly not surprised, it happens to every company when they get big, and consequently too cocky with their power as a result - and they've been abusing this ever since Nitro was released with the removal of global emotes in late 2016, the 'allthefoxes' incident in February 2018, etc etc. - not to mention Discord killed off almost every single forum and IRC channel, relegating them to mostly 'old things that you post giant paragraphs on with no emotion whatsoever' in the eyes of most, sadly.

My foresight all the way back in 2016 was spot on about how Discord would eventually collapse into nothingness and the normies would flock elsewhere once they do a hugely controversial enough thing was so true, but I never predicted it to destroy the Internet as it previously was, to the point some places refuse to even fucking provide a light theme anymore because Discord's intentionally bad light theme was meme bait. It's really weird considering how forums/IRC/4chan users post-2012, especially on FOSS-adjacent spaces, were very, VERY adamant to stay on them, and then as soon as Discord came along around 2016 they flocked to it like a herd of sheep for some reason and started adopting Twitter/Tumblr tier culture too, often signing up on those spaces alongside Discord at the same time. Plus there was for some reason a ton of IRC spambots all over the place until Discord asserted its dominance over communities (flooding channels with messages every minutes), then they gradually vanished as people gave up with IRC and moved to Discord - conspiracy?

(I remember when people freaked out about Microsoft thinking about acquiring Discord (which didn't happen in the end), and I asked people "if Twitter bought it, would you be bothered?" and they mostly said they wouldn't be. Double standards... well, now I bet those same people would have screamed if Twitter did XD)

feel free to stick this thread btw, I hope people realise this is just a hangout thread, in case the title is a little ambiguous^^
