PS3 Question about internal storage being occupied

Hello guys, It's me again.

I'm getting used to the cfw scene. I'm back with some of my noobish questions, please pardon me if this has already been answered in the past but here I go:

I calculated the internal storage of my ps3 and I noticed that the actual games stored there are only amounting to around 250 GB (Yes, I calculated all the contents of each folders one by one in multiman using the "X" button and hitting the "properties" to get the actual size manually using the calculator on my phone). Note: This is both GAMES folder and PS3ISO folders combined. I freed up some installed game data in the xmb game menu and all I'm coming up is around 111GB free storage

If my basic math is correct, that's gonna be 250+111 = 361GB so there are things that are occupying this ps3.

My questions are:

1. are there items that are taking up my storage without my knowledge?
2. I saw a separate "GAME" folder apart from the "GAMES" folder, I'd like to know what this is for and if I could delete the contents iside it, if I decide to do so, will there be some consequences? If I'm getting this correctly, the folder type games should be inside the "GAMES" folder so I don't really know what the "Game" folder is for.
3. is there a shortcut to delete some unwanted items off of this PS3?

I may have some additional questions as I am really new to the scene hehe. Thanks in advance for your patience!

1. Your ps3 stores a lot of things, most of the firmware, games installation cache/data, save files, option files, database, user data and etc

Also 8% of the total space of the HDD is reserved (you can set it to 1% using webMAN MOD or PS3 Unlock HDD Space app)

2. Game folder is where the PKG format games/apps and save datas are storaged, some games install cache/data in this folder too.

Ah, thank you for your reply. In line with your statement, am I right to assume that I can delete some folders here that I do not want? what are pkg files? sorry for the noob question, just starting up with the scene. Some of the gods here really helped a lot on my last topic post.

PKG is the official format for PS3 / PS4 / PS5 digital games and applications, everything you download from PSN is in this format. The GAMES folder that you are using is unofficial, it was created to use game backups (I assume you ripped your own games legally), this folder is where disk backups should be placed (JB format or legacy).

If you want to free up some space, just delete the games you already finished or use THIS homebrew app. I recommend you buy an external/usb drive to store more games.

the extra 8% free sounds enticing. are there any down sides of doing this?
