PS2 Question about preparing the MC

Hi everyone.

I have a PS2 Slim which is 90004 model number. The modchip on it was kinda bad and so many games wasn't performing well, so I used FunTuna for softmod it two days ago but on Slim models, there's no such a good way to play backup ISO's except than USB which is so slow and has stuttering/bugs in many games.

So I decided to buy a FAT model and it's on shipping. I think it will arrive in 1-2 days. I don't know which model number it is, I just know it's a FAT console without modchip. Now the problem is, as I read most of the FAT models can't run FreeDVDBoot.

The console I bought is not modchipped. So I wanna use FMCB on it. The problem is how do I prepare the Memory Card. Since I'm student and broke as usual (xD) I can't buy premade FMCB cards.

Can I use my modchipped PS2 Slim which is capable to run FreeDVDBoot to prepare FMCB memory card for my PS2 FAT?

Thank you.

u might try that and test it..

Use the cross-model installation on the MC.

You can also prepare the HDD from the PC so that the Ps2 will boot Ulaunchelf just inserting the HDD into it (then you can proceed to install either FMCB or FHDB).

Btw, on Ps2 slim there's also the SMB method not only USB.

Modchip have nothing to do with games performing.

so I used FunTuna for softmod
Why? Do You have firmware 2.30? There are SCPH-9xxxx with 2.20, maybe yours is lucky. Check ROMVER.

but on Slim models, there's no such a good way to play backup ISO's except than USB which is so slow and has stuttering/bugs in many games.
Better than USB is MX4SIO.
And latest OPL beta (1.2.0 line) greatly improved USB anyway by adding buffering and ZSO support.

None can. DVD-Player must be in v3.10 or 3.11. Can be achieved by hacked DVD-Player updates but You need an entry point to do that anyway.

And easiest way is installing FMCB 1.966 on this Slim, or choosing MBRBoot way.

Anyway, You should read this first to know what exploitation options You have because based on Your first post, I think You have outdated info and limited overview: ;)

Thank you so much for informing me :> Since PS2-Home blocked my country (idk why) I'm looking at youtube to get infos. Didn't know so many things. I will check the link and try the things u said.

Thank you again.

PS2 Home is not very good source of information anyway. ;} They have some really cool tutorials but also often spreading JayJay's mythomania.

@TnA or @HWNJ could serve some "drama links" if You are interesting. :D

:D just weird to see they blocked entire country while I can visit with opera's public vpn.

thank you much again :> now trying to use fmcb at my slim.

edit: just tried to install fmcb and unfortunately it doesn't work on my slim. BUT you can still install it to memory card. when you launch FMCB.elf it will say "fmcb isn't compatible by this system, but you can still install it"

if anyone tries to do smt like this, just make sure you selected normal install > cross-model.

i will update the post when the FAT console comes from the shipment.

FAT ps2 has arrived and FMCB works :>

edit: tried USB method with FAT till i get network adapter and hdd. idk why but on my slim USB loads much more faster than the FAT one. both consoles has same OPL DB version, just slim using funtuna. does anyone knows something about this?

edit 2: so just realized fat 39004 usb ports definitely slower than slim 90004. fmvs are stuttering. same pendrive.

@TnA Builds in official repo and ps2homebrew not works for anything than Slims. Am I wrong? :P

@misa For Your own good, never use OPL DB but official OPL. ;) DB is build on ancient sdk, with some issues and code altered. Who knows what is full list of impact things. Rather it is not slower support anyway, but fragmenting disc image. For best performance in pre 1.2.0 betas, you need one continues block with disc image to not waste time in seeking sectors.

yeah, i had opl db, it couldn't recognize zso's. so changed it to official opl beta today.
but stutters a lot on FMVs when i compared to slim. couldn't check if usb ports differs with 39004 and 90004.

i have to get a network adapter immediately :D

hmm.. there's not so much difference as numeric but some games fmv's stutters while it doesn't stutter in slim. at least on yakuza restored.

but when i play on slim i splitted the iso and was playing on fat32. on fat one, i just use the iso on exfat. maybe i should try splitting the iso.

It is normal, as TnA mentioned, Fat models (especially pre 5000X I seems to remember) have slower USB speed and are also compatible with less devices, especially pendrives. Maybe with a USB HDD you'd get slightly better performance.

The good thing of the 3900X is that they're very reliable. Also last model with an undestructible optical drive.

yeah. fortunately i got the ps2 for really cheap, 20 bucks.

gotta buy adapter and hdd now. found some sony ide adapter + 80gb hdd for 20 bucks on some second hand sale website. im thinking about buying it.

Well, it MIGHT look worse in-game, hence I mentioned how the tests were done!

The real IOP might have even less transfer-speed compared to DECKARD-PS2s in-game!

Doesn't matter in-game...
@TnA Are You drunk? ;)
"I don't remember!" (kidding) :'-D
I mean: builds for other versions than those specific.
Oh... FDVDB. Nah, it works on some FAT with other DVD-Player versions...!

It's a start :encouragement:.
But keep in mind, most IDE HDDs you can find are very old and overused, often with bad sectors.

With the Sony official adaptor you've already the definitive one.

Next step would be a SATA board (nowadays the cheap BITFUNX 2.0 work with any HDD).
Then the last step, a new SATA III HDD, (i.e. HARD DISK INTERNO HDD SEAGATE BARRACUDA 3.5'' 2TB SATA 7200RPM 256MB ST2000DM008 763649113653 | eBay it's a good price for 2TB, and if 1TB is enough for you, you can find them for less than 40$).

Personally I prefer 2,5" HDDs (cooler and quieter).
