PS3 Rebug 4.80 DEX to Evilnat 4.92.2 CEX

Hello! This is my first time posting here.

I have a PS3 Slim CECH-2104A Retail console. It is on Rebug 4.80 DEX and it has a DEX LV2 Kernel and Target type. At least that's what Rebug Toolbox is showing. I got this console some time ago and I don't remember what CFW I installed on here. From the Rebug Toolbox information I suppose I somehow converted from CEX to DEX, but I honestly don't remember.

Now, I'd like to update to Evilnat 4.92.2 CEX version, but I'm not sure what are the exact steps to do so. I've read a few threads on here, but I'd like some clarification as I don't want to accidentally brick it. Could someone help me out and run me through the process step by step? I'd greatly appreciate this.

From what I've read I understand that I need to change now from DEX to CEX in the Rebug Toolbox and then I can update the CFW using a USB flash drive. Is that all? Do I need to dump my NAND file before updating the CFW?

Also, the only reason to have a debug version of CFW is if you want to develop homebrew, make real time memory editing and so on? Are there any other benefits?

Use rebug toolbox to convert back to CEX.

Then just install Nat cfw pex or cex version

Edit: or just install Nat dpex and then can convert back to cex after upgrade, using xai

Your ERK (EID Root Key) should be dumped to your hard drive or on USB. If not, then dump it in rebug toolbox and then convert.

I just like having the dex mode available in Rebug.
Evilnat PEX has features from DEX 4.84 ported over hence PEX instead of REX. As esc0rt says, you can install D-PEX over directly Rebug 4.80 which you're on, and then convert to CEX once installed.

Here is a complete video guide on the process, which will show you step by step how to convert DEX to CEX and vice versa. Everything you need to know is in there.

Thank you all of you! I managed to install 4.92.2 D-PEX. I have one more question though. Following Mr.Mario2011s guide I first pressed "Convert to CEX" and the IDPS, TargetID and VSH changed to CEX. But when I try to swap kernel to CEX I get a message "This option is only for DEX. Convert to DEX first". Do I need to convert to DEX again, then change kernel type then convert to CEX again and disable Debug settings? My end goal is to return to CEX fully and install Evilnat 4.92.2 PEX.

Edit: I tried to shut down the console and turn it on again after just choosing the "Convert to CEX" option to check if everything is fine. It booted up but the fan was spinning like a jet engine. Is this bad? By the way sorry if these questions are stupid. I'm just not a 100% confident in what I'm doing here and I'm a bit afraid of messing something up.

I backed up my EID root key and NOR dump to my flash drive just in case something goes wrong.

Guys, please if you can help me out with this. I'm not sure what other steps I should take in this situation.

Also, I'd like to know more about things like DEX, VSH, TargetID. Where should I look for information? PSDevWiki?
