PS3 Red light blinking when console is plugged in

Hi, I have a CECHC04 model with a problem that I can't find any information about.

When I plug the console in and flip the switch on the back, Red light comes on and then starts flashing, 3 beeps are heard without me doing anything. The console cannot be turned on. Can someone point me in the right direction so that I can get this fixed?

Hmm maybe power supply issue either that or there's a short on the mobo somewhere. Or some other reason it's throwing that error I'm not sure exactly about what errors caused by what on the ps3, but I know bad caps can cause ylod maybe rlod I'm not sure only way to e sure is to open it up and very carefully go over the board, checking caps looking for scratches chips etc in components.

Pull your hdd out
Power it on
Do you get the same results?
The exact same thing happens.

I tried a PSU from the same exact model, and it's the same error. I also tried unplugging the hdd, bluray drive, card reader and power on/off / eject board - the console still behaves exactly the same.

Overheating or Overvolting? Very strange case. The console just beeps immediately and continues to blink red without pressing the power button?

Head over to https://www.psx-place.com/threads/f...syscon-first-steps-and-error-reporting.30100/

And see what the syscon is telling you. From the syscon error codes pdf you can determine the area of the fault. Then start the long task of pin pointing the component that has failed.

This is the quickest method to diag issues on the FAT ps3's.

Tried to avoid blindly following threads that lead you down a rabbit hole, diagnose first then attempt repair, not the other way round!

That's odd, if everything else is in order I'd say probably a corrupt flash image. Did you do anything with this console prior to it being in this state or did it just get dropped in your lap as is? I'll root around see if I can't pull some documents. I just found a few random articles with similar issues. If I had to guess it would be some sort of hardware issue, either caps or a bad/cold/cracked solder joint somewhere under surface mount ics CPU/RSX/Ram chips etc. Few people had luck with a reflow but I wouldn't recommend that other than as a last ditch hail mary play. Others state some models are seeing this issue from bad/bent/broken hdd connectors. Only time I've come across a red blinking light was with one console that had a severe infestation in it which I assume caused an unknown amount of airway clogging and shorts on the board.

After reading about your tests so far my next go-to would be to disconnect the front panel ribbon cable, just to make sure it's not causing a short to something like the SYSCON.

I actually have a CECHA01 that does the same thing but I have to press the power button before receiving the same error pattern as you. I will (but haven't got around to do it yet) use this SYSCON troubleshoot guide to see if I can find a useful error code.

Hey,
I'm new here and wanted to ask if you got any updates on your issues?
I have the exact same issues with my CECHK 80GB PS3 after I tried to boot it up after plenty of years not using it.
I plug it in and immediately get three beeps and the flashing red light, no green/yellow light at all.

Thanks and have a good time

Hey,
I tried to elaborate a bit further but couldn't really find a solution.
I disassembled my ps3. If I just connect the mainboard to the 5V PSU connection it still does the same thing. Plugged in, beeps 3 times and red light blinking, nothing else. So all other components dont seem to have an influence on the behavior. PSU supplies 5V and 12V so seems to work.
The only thing the ps3 still does is beep 3 times wenn the eject button is pressed, even if only connected to 5V. It's a CECHK model so I can't disconnect the buttons since they're on the mainboard.
Fuses on the mainboard seem to be ok, cant see any obvious damage.
What else could I do? capacitors?

My main goal is to be able to backup my data.

Thanks in advance for any help
