PS3 (Research/Experimental) - NEC/TOKIN Capacitors Replacement - YLOD

Another cap bites the dust. A01 started randomly freezing on first start and ran fine after. Later started long RLODing and would only get to xmb while totally COLD.

Quick hair dryer on the 8 NECs and back to normal....for a while

So after I replaced all the NECs and bridged them all. it keeps freezing and crashing with the YLOD and giving me this mangled graphics

EDIT: Unbridged the Caps from the underside of the board and bridged only the top side caps (4) I got video for a few seconds, now I don't get any video

EDIT 2: got video to work for a few seconds, it froze and a wire started to smoke obviously something is shorted, removed the wire then tried with No Bridge with the CELL and it sparked and crashed with the YLOD. One of my caps completely burned to a crisp, looks like that's the only damage done so I have a extra Cap I'll redo everything tomorrow.

I'll update tomorrow if anything gets fixed/doesn't fix @Naked_Snake1995 @sandungas

Can you try bridging just one pair of Tantalums, on the CELL side, but make sure the wire its actually bridged, perhaps some of them aren't touching the positive poles, thus you are experiencing freezes.

Bridge just one pair of Tantalums on the CELL CPU under the board, near the CPU,and leave the rest unbridged.

You don't think that would Short again?
Like the RSX side? Because I disconnected the CELL bridge wires and I think that may have caused the short. Idk wouldn't that do the same for the RSX side of the board?

When the system was useable with the setup in the earlier photos, it was very slow at the booting a game and had issues loading objects in the game menu once I click start it crashed YLOD style
I also had to crash the system with the switch because it kept freezing when launching the fan control. I also rebuilt the database and it game be a pink screen background with mangled graphics.

Later when I did a reset of the video using the power button combo it would show the *you are using HDMI would you like to change resolution?* and froze there every time

Also does the Bridge wire have to touch the actual contact on the Board itself or can it touch the positive end of the cap?

Since the CELL shorted and sparked, fired one cap, i hope it didn't fry the board somehow, since it made a *pop* and gave immediate YLOD, I inspected and it looks completely fine except that small spot where the old cap fried, so I cleaned it up and it looks good

I'll post an update later when/if it work

I think i have a solution, it was preformed on a CECHL01,by a user, whom i believe he removed all the NECs from the Side-B "Top",but try soldering the wires like this,it was reported to be working.

He replaced all the NECs with Tantalums, but only bridged the Top Tantalums, not the bottom ones on the CPU and GPU, try it like shown in the picture, but first try just bridging one pair of Tantalums on the bottom "where the CELL is" and leave the others unbridged, then try this method if the other doesnt work.

Looks like the photo you have here is the negative spots on the board, supposed to be positive right?

Thanks for the help, I hope i can get this working again!

This would be possible only if one of the power delivery rail for cell or rsx would be faulty. they are not normaly conected. but if its work the one of the power delivery rails would be more on the stress side as it wil deliver power for both not only for one or another.

Yes, when you do the bridging, its always on the Positive points, dont try on the Negative, unless you want to fry your Caps :)

I see, but still doesnt expalin why bridging the Tantalums when replacing all the NECs leads to YLOD,even though it shouldnt, by the way, any success with your C04? @Luisile

This might be something also.

i noticed the bigger grey caps in that area of my CECHB01 have "rust" on the metal contacts, i'm going to try @Naked_Snake1995 mappings and see if that does anything.

Also for anyone who wants a photo of a Clean NON TOKIN board here's my COK-001 CECHB01 without caps

Update:

so I cleaned the contacts in the board throughly and the results are good... sorta
System now boots fine and runs XMB home brew fine( from my first testing)
Started up MC:LA (same game I tested yesterday, I noticed the game was very "choppy" at the start initial screen, pressed start and the game didn't crash the system instead the system just froze.

What I did this time was
Bridged all the caps under the board(RSX/CELL Chip side)
I left the Top side alone with wires(underside of the chips)

so idk what to do to fix this freezing issue I have? I'm afraid of doing much since I feel it may give me scrambled graphics like last time.

Anyways
System boots
Can boot game
Game freezes at initial start screen
-
Any ideas? @Naked_Snake1995 ?

Playing a PS2 game and loading it up does this

So idk if I should bridge the top side caps? I'm pretty sure the CELL upscales the PS2_emu right? The system froze at this screen and refuses to shut down using the Pwr button
Keeps blinking green

Should I bridge the rest of the pairs of caps(top side of the board) ?
@Naked_Snake1995 @sandungas ??

maybe since all these time I had fan speed at 100% and the new caps can't handle all this at once? Idk I'm prob wrong since the boot screen waves is slower in speed for some reason and "choppy".
