PS3 (Research/Experimental) - NEC/TOKIN Capacitors Replacement - YLOD

Found these caps in a limited edition ps3 ryu ga 3 not sure if this has been found or not but these dont have nectokin writen on it also the console was never opened only opened it as arrive damaged but still works (motherboard is ver-001) trying to but every type on the limited editions to see any differences
The PS3 special editions sometimes uses components that differs a bit from the mass produced retail PS3 models. Your tokins are the same used in PS3 model DECR-1400. Motherboard https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/DEB-001
Are labeled different but seems to have the same specs, 1200ohm

Btw, can you make a photo of the sycon in that motherboard ?... or at least mention his name ?, we are still trying to find an special syscon model that was used in VER-001 motherboards, and your console seems to a be a good candidate for using it

Hi @Djudju ...to get your PS3's Syscon error log you don't need CFW or HEN, infact you don't even need the PS3 to turn on. Here is Felix's guide on how to do it. Start at "If your console doesn't turn on" ...have a read through the guide, opening all the "Spoiler" tabs and you will get a good idea of what it's about:-
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/r...s-replacement-ylod.25260/page-192#post-295119

The Syscon error log from your PS3 will help you identify the problem.

Good evening everyone, well, I replaced all the nec tokin above (2 x cell & 2 gpu). Now the console lasts longer but still turns off. I will tackle the other nec tokin, side down. I had a question, once the repairs are done, does the log error log update, it resets if the problems are solved (FFFFFFFF)? Many thanks to the community

One of the Syscon commands to clear the error log, is "clearerrlog" - (thanks to Vic and Booter who just told me in chat).

Seeing as you have saved your previous error log to text, maybe clear it and see what comes up after you get problems

thank you, but I can't find a clearerrlog function on syscon via "PS3 advanced tools"

No worries, it doesn't matter really (to clear the error log), because everytime there is a new error (out of the 32 listed) it will knock the oldest one off the list anyway. :encouragement:

Ok thx,
But precisely it is to see if replacing the nec tokin automatically erases the errors

Now i've a new error : 2131 & 2022. But i've less 1002. I don't understand why. prrrrrrrr

You can only use PS3 Advanced tools to dump the errorlog. It doesn't feature any commands (such as clearerrorlog). For that you'll need to use UART adapter and Python script.

Hello friends thank you very much for your help it works my when I turn on the multiman it refuses to open the ja time your help??

Did you only replace 2 / 4 of the NEC Tokins on the RSX?

Also, what Tantalums did you use for the replacements?

Hi everyone, thanks for your response. I did something like this (it's not my console, image that comes from the net), but they are the same tantalums (rsx: 2 x 108 & cell: 128). I also wanted to do those on the other side but it's more difficult, there are lots of capacitors next to it, so risky. So I did a test from a video on youtube:
The console takes even longer (motorstorm no longer crashes but uncharted after 2 hours it turns off). Unfortunately I also wanted to resolder the hdmi port and I no longer have a signal, however with the av connection no problem. There it is, thanks

@Djudju ...bro these AVX Tantalums are no good for the job, the ESR and voltage is too high.

For CELL you need these Panasonic (2R5TPE470M7) 470uF, 2.5V, 7mΩ@100kHz ESR ...here:-
https://www.lcsc.com/product-detail/Tantalum-Capacitors_PANASONIC-2R5TPE470M7_C147773.html

Or because on your RSX the NEC / Tokins are only 1000uF (instead of 1200uF)...

For your RSX, Panasonic (EEFSX0D331E4) 330uF, 2.5V, 4.5mΩ@100kHz ESR ...here:-
https://www.lcsc.com/product-detail...Capacitor_PANASONIC-EEFSX0D331E4_C427165.html

12 x 470uF (3 x 470uF per NEC Replacement) for the CELL

16 x 330uF (4 x 330uF per NEC Replacement) for the RSX

(or for RSX you can also use the 470uF like the CELL = 3 x 470uF per NEC Replacement)

EDIT: Also that Youtube video is no good, because if the NEC is dead, putting 1 x 470uF (piggy-back) per NEC is not going to solve the problem, because it wants 1000uF or 1200uF per NEC.
