PS3 Resetting a CFW

The controller is busted then. It's supposed to pull in everything that's shaped like a disc.
Either install noBD and give up backwards compatibility or get a working controller + drive from a dead unit of the same model, transplant and remarry.

Ok, one last question (hopefully) I will plague you with:
Is the ability of Cobra/Rebug/Evilnat to play PS1 and PS2 games as ISO files from hard drive linked to the existence of the physical Blu-Ray drive?

If the answer to this is yes, then I will try to buy another PS3 that is CFW compatible and use the old one to play PS3 games as long as it "holds ground".

WebMAN MOD, MultiMAN, IRISMAN and Managunz homebrews can mount PS1 and PS2 ISOs. It's up to you which one do you prefer.

It's imperative to have normal CFW installed, so that requires a working BT/WiFi module and BD drive (at least, its daughterboard).

Yes. ISOs are mounted by emulating a disc in the drive, which requires the controller daughterboard to be operational (whether the drive itself works or not doesn't matter).
It might be possible to play PS1 / PS2 games on noBD CFW by repacking them in PS1/PS2 Classics format.

Ok folks, just to give you feedback.
I ended up buying a new/old CECH-2024A PS3 with 4.80 OFW. I installed Evilnat 4.90 along with WebmanMod 1.45 and PS2 games play like a charm again.

Many thanks for your support.

Does this still work? I want to clean up my ps3 and get rid of some old stuff. Is quick format ok, ill keep my cfw?
You will need to reinstall the firmware (unless you have a NAND model, CECHG or older) but if you had CFW before reformatting you'd be able to immediately install CFW after reformatting.

If you format or replace the hard drive, the next time you boot your PS3 it will ask you to insert a USB disk with a firmware update not lower than the version you had before formatting (it will tell you what version). This doesn't mean you've lost your jailbreak - if you had CFW installed before formatting it will still accept CFW at this step, so you can just insert a USB with Evilnat CFW 4.91 and it'll work without any issues. However if you end up installing OFW then you will lose you jailbreak so just double check you're installing the correct firmware.
