What's up folks! I've got successfully installed HEN on my PS3, which also unlocked the ability for me to finally use Retroarch! Everything works perfectly
Except for trying to scan the roms to add to the collection, the steps I'm doing:

On the XMB, i choose " Scan Directory"
Then choose the folder that's included with the roms on my hdd, next, I press on " <scan this directory> " then thr next text appears as " 0% preparing for content scan..." And stay just like that, what am i missing?

Tried just now, i put the folder with roms onto my
Fat32 flashdrive with roms , and the same thing happens as with the ps3's hdd
thats weird its working fine for me
are you using the latest retroarch?
what usb are you using?what path for the roms?

I'm using the latest version of 1.7.6

My Sega Genesis roms are in .smd format

Here's my video showcasing the steps
For trying to scan the rom folder directory, ending with no success.

tried now, I reinstalled Retroarch, used a different Flashdrive and it's still the same,

btw is your ps3 on cfw? or are you using the 4.84 HFW as well? I really don't know what could be the problem, looks like i'll just end up playing my roms by searching for them in the filer browser, I just wanted to sort my Roms on retroarch's xmb, but it doesn't want to scan the roms unfortunately.

Ok so I think i found out the problem, NES roms get scanned and added to the collection, oddly enough, i think the problem is with my sega roms, will report back if i manage to get them added by trying a different sega rom format

im using HEN

i have the same problem with some gbc and smc roms maybe its the roms it self and not retroarch

Could be, maybe some of the game formats aren't in the database, thus why retroarch ends up not finiding anything in its database, and adds nothing to the collection.

SMD is old format, with header. Today peoples using BIN/MD which doesn't have header.

RA "scaning" the way calculating checksums for found files in specific by the user dir. If rom image is inside archive, it will decompress each of them. Also of course such database must exist to have anything to compare. ;) Don't use this on consoles as this will kill You waiting eons. Scan on PC, then replace paths in playlists to match the ones used by You on the target console.

Thanks for the info, I'm honestly pretty new to the homebrews, especially to Retroarch, about the scanning on pc, how do I do that? must I install retroarch on PC as well?

I've done some research, and found out that the issue is coming from the program itself,

this is what I found from: https://www.retroarch.me/retroarch-ps3/

Current Issues of Installing RetroArch on PS3

This PS3 Controller RetroArch latest version can be viewed as a beta version. Here, we have presented some current issues on PS3 RetroArch.
  • Right Now!!! You cannot scan for content. Instead, for now, you should load the content directly from the file system.
  • Instead of using the zipped ROMs on emulators such as SNES9x and other emulators, use the 'Open Archive As Folder', then choose the ROM that you want to utilize. For now, 'Load Archive With Core' is not working, so don't use it.
  • If you go to 'Information' -> 'Core Information', it currently doesn't show anything. Not a big deal for now but something we will want to fix later on regardless.
  • RetroArch PS3 Core download does not work.
  • None of the 'downloading' features right now will work in the PS3 port.
