RetroArch CE (Unofficial - Community Edition)

PS3 RetroArch CE (Unofficial - Community Edition) Beta 4

Is the 720x480 scaling issue mentioned earlier in the thread something that can even be fixed in a mod like this? Or is that something to direct at the libretro dev team? I also have a PS3 set up with a CRT monitor and not having a native 640x480 in Retroarch when the console itself is set to output 640x480 seems weird.

I haven't a CRT TV/monitor to test it.

I guess it's less important that it's a CRT monitor and more that retroarch properly outputs 640x480 when the system is set to 480p on any screen (LCD CRT whatever) so that in-game integer scaling is properly rendered. As of now you can't set the output to any lower than 720x480 in retroarch itself on the PS3 when 640x480 would be ideal (wonder if it's a hardware issue since this seems like a strange oversight).

Hello guys, can you ask me a question?

I have the retroarch with full set of the roms on my internal HD,

and I would like to put my PS1 and PS2 games on the list as well.

I'm looking to unify my old games all in retroarch.

I know that OFW already runs PS1 games on the PS3's XMB, but I would like to be able to run them within the retroarch!

It's possible?

Nope, RetroArch PS3 can't and won't ever run PS1/PS2.

Could you test it on RPCS3 emulator and tell me if the result is the same? (of course at 480p res).
Never used RPCS3 before but after poking around this seems like it may very well be a hardware limitation as (from what I can tell) RCPS3 does not allow video output below 720x480. Which would also explain the odd black bars when playing legitimate PSN PS1 titles in 480p on a 4:3 monitor, the PS3 must use some sort of anamorphic 480p/4:3 output over HDMI. I'll have to find some composite / component cables and do some testing on a TV at 480i/480p and see if I get the same results.
Sorry to get real specific but Retroarch IS made for old games and, well, most of 'em are 4:3 :adoration:

Using my few free time, i'm accupied in some battlefront.
  • make official psl1ght retroarch compilable again
  • make fbneo rl plus frontend a vertex/shader/textures application
  • improve my rsx skills
  • make the gap between official retroarch and retroarch_psx_ce smaller as possible for easier future updates

With my work on FBNeoRL plus frontend almost finished (it'll have 1080p/720p/576p and 480p res working) i had some free time to test retroarch layer with analogic ouput. I used two analogic cable output: composite and component RGB. First to test analogic output at 480p and second at 576p on my TV. At the first attempt to start retroarch with the PS3 setted to those resolutions I got a desynchronized output, not watchable and I had to reset the ps3. Also with HDMI and ps3 setted to 576p i had the same result.
But i noticed that if you set the video output on retroarch before to change PS3 resolution and/or cable out type (for example Settings-> Video-> Output -> Screen Resolution->720x480 ) and save retroarch settings, then retroarch will work with low resolutions.

I have updated RetroArch core to 1.9.1.
Some new things are present like per-folder options and one PS3 issue solved (workaround) about close content that often crash system.
New RetroArch layer can be tested if you download FCEUMM core update (from inside retrorach).
Slowly i will update all cores with new Retroarch layer updated.

Thank you for the update. Is there a link for the new release? Or is it only online update through RetroArch?

Is this compatible with super slims with 4.86 and HEN 3.0.1?
And what about the core that plays NEO GEO games, does it work well? I'm wondering If games like Garou: Mark of the Wolves, King of Fighters and Samurai Shodown play better than the PS2 versions?

@Crystal I'm not sure if I should report this to you or if I should post it on github:
The core "Commodore - CMB-II 5x0 (VICE xcmb5x0)" does not download. It causes that "Update Installed Cores" get stuck downloading that core. All the other cores can be downloaded fine using the option "Core Downloader".

Yeah runs fine on PS3 Hen. I don't see much difference compared to the other Retroarchs apart from having the mgba core which I appreciate a lot. Snes FX games still runs slow. Doesnt looks like support CHD files.

Having an updated version of retroarch for ps3 is good but I will still stick to RetroArch v1.0.0.2 for now
