PS3 SACD-problem

I fully understand that you don't want to mess around with the BD's. I'm glad that you have all this information and shared your thoughts. SACD isn't a big deal at all for me, but just nice to have when the feature is there. And to have a fully working machine.
I chose BD410 because it is reliable, fast loading and cheap to buy, in my country a brand new KES400 laser lens would cost almost as much as 3 brand new KES410 ACA frames, I don't like BD400, it has a short lifespan, I already have 4 broken BD400s, the laser lens and the daughter board were broken, I broke the ribbon cable socket on the motherboard just testing them.

@NightLess - I throw out a hook…
Do you know where I find a CECHB00 like yours (CiB, Sony 40nm, BD-410)? CiB is relatively easy to find but Sony-frank and bd-410 is harder. Some good suggestions?

The Frankensteins I bought were all from the second-hand market in Japan, and the sellers usually maintained them before selling them, so I could see what they were equipped with, and most of them didn't have much choice because they were very rare.

Well - I have to look for an CECHE01-MG.
(Metal Gear bundle)
These seems to have KES-410 built in.

Still waiting for the right time to get a CECHE01 (CiB). In the meantime, I went to my mother and father's house and picked up my CECHC04 that I apparently bought in 2008. Date code 8A! Tried an SACD disc and was surprised when the CD didn't go straight in but rotated a 1/4 turn when it went in. So definitely a KES-410 in it. It read SACD and all other formats without problems. (The machine has barely been used and looks brand new). I don't want to take it apart to try the KES-410 in my other machines, CECHA01 or CECHB01. I'd rather hunt for another CECHC04 with date code 8A or higher. Still hunting for a CECHE01-MG :)

Combined with the information we got above, it could be the BMD004 single laser or the 006 dual laser. They both rotate disk inster, so I don't know either XD...

I was thinking of opening my CECHC04 (date code 8A) when I have time to take a look at what is inside. It needs a DELID anyway. Then I'll check what is in it.

Well, I might not use it. I have other PS3s (too many actually). The one I'm using right now is a CECH-2004, but besides the ones I mentioned earlier, I also have a CECHB01-90mn unopened (CIB), one CECH-2504 (CIB). I just got a CECHA00 that had a BD error. I was hoping for the BD reader, but it turned out to be corrosion at the connector to it on the motherboard. I have a broken COK-001 that I was going to remove the connector from, but I don't have the tools to fix it. The local repair shop didn't want to remove it either, but (maybe) wanted to replace it if I found a new/loose one. Well, let's see how I solve it or if I sell it as a spare part.

You'll need some equipment to fix it, but it's an investment, and if you rarely use the tools I wouldn't recommend buying them, just sell them as accessories.

I'm thinking of opening my CECHC04 (8A) when I get some time this fall. But before that I got curious about which BD reader I have, but all I got was "BD-Laser: 0x3D (unknown)."

I can't let this go, so I found another CECHC04, but date code 8A (only 26 days of run time) in the hope that this one would also have a BD-410 in it. It didn't. Well, it works perfectly and has good temperatures.

I searched further and found a CECHC04 with date code 7D that has YLOD, but before buying I made sure that this one "spin" the disc in. I put this BD-410 in a working PS3 and IT READ SACD!!!

I took the BD-410 apart and checked - indeed, a KES-410 with dual laser. Daughter card: BMD-003. Hmm, I have more BD-410s so I checked them and found one that has BMD-003. Then I found something interesting, but I don't know if it has any significance. Probably not, since it is IC309 (Worker RAM for BD). The one that WORKS with SACD has a SAMSUNG and a "3" mark in a circle + (1-875-350-21) on the board, and the two that DO NOT work with SACD have ESMT and a "4" mark in a circle + (1-875-350-31) on the board.

But I see that your (NightLess) board has ESMT and even a BMD-006 board, so it can't be that.

Well - I'm waiting for a CECHE01-MG that should have a BD-410 in it (CiB, but YLOD) that I was thinking of replacing the RSX with a 40nm. I'll check what's in it when it arrives...

I would like to continue this research too eventually. I found out the SACD controller is IC504: CXD5064R

Interesting - I'll look at this at some point. I now have SACD-compatible BD-410 in my frank CECHA01, B01, C04 and E01-MG. Also have some non SACD BD-410 laying around.

It is possible that sony upgrades the BD drive firmware or syscon flags for those drives differently. There is sadly no leaked tools for BD drive calibration or anything else. The BD firmware is also encrypted and seems nobody has keys.

Makes me wonder why these tech companies don't use single burn in chips to prevent piracy that auto destruct the flasher lines / transistor route after the first firmware flash like a blown fuse or timed cap.
