First off - hello there. I'm a fairly long-time (a few years now) lurker on the PS2 scene.
Second off, my actual question: my PS2 of choice is my childhood 750xx slim (and yes, it is mechapwned) which means there are naturally some compatibility issues. Namely, with the PAL versions of SOCOM II and SmackDown 2. I know enough about PS2 to know that games can carry their own DECKARD compatibility modes, but haven't been able to check if SOCOM II PAL was one of the lucky few to benefit from the 770xx, since it seemingly just doesn't work on the 750xx. (I assume a .pnatch or cheat code or something of the sort would work to make the 750xx models run those modes - I know the NA version's online community uses custom .elfs that work with retail discs)
As for SmackDown 2, I noticed on the DKWDRV technical writeups that the NA version uses 3: SPU_DMA_WAIT_LIMIT = 0x20 while there's no similar entry for the PAL version: and 'lo! While the PAL version has dreadfully glitchy sound (the main menu music and in-ring SFX, specifically - wrestlers smash each other to the sound of menuing), even on a perfect condition retail disc, the NA version works just fine even via DKWDRV's USB loader! (FMV audio notwithstanding, that's a known limitation) - and sadly setting the "deckard patch" to 3 didn't provide the same result. Did I do it wrong? And if so, how would I go about tweaking PS1 compatibility like this article vaguely suggests is possible? I tried searching for something like that but found nothing.
Thank you in advance.
