PS2 SMB vs USB on 77004?

But the caps on your PSU are constantly charged and no load it takes from it.
That can decrease it's lifetime.

And it would still be a hard power off, not a clean one that umounts the USB media first. Right now I have a network HDD at home, but my PS2 doesn't always have access to an ethernet cable, depending on where I want to play. Could this device be powered up only by the PS2 itself (while having a usb drive on the other usb port?

Thanks!

FALSE... It should also power the HDD down, because that was specifically worked on by SP193...

Oh, I misread. You mean SMB powers the HDD off like a "cut off".
Not on USB...
What do you mean with "not on usb"? I mean, any filesystem mounted on a SMB mini router device would NOT umount in a clean way if I just cut the power from the device, right? What about the device I posted a few posts back? Could I power it only with the PS2?

Then read it again...... That's what I wrote... What do I mean by USB... OBVIOUSLY the USB which is referred to in the title.

Yes, when it is on an SMB router it would hard cutoff energy supply! Not good...!

Ohh right, I knew that, I mean, I'm considering SMB only for now but I think there's no way to umount the SMB filesystem in a clean way.

What about my question about the device?

Refresh site.
Yes, I get it, no good way to use SMB and umount its filesystem in a clean way. But I don't see any answer to my question about powering a USB device (only to use wifi instead of ethernet) only with the PS2 :(

@TnA I mean this.

If you format the USB device to ntfs you won't have any problem.

When using the 500GB USB HDD (that's FAT32 format) I also never got any actual problem. However sometimes when reconnecting it to the PC windows suggested me to analyse the device (doing it there wasn't any error anyway). This issue doesn't occur with a ntfs formatted device.

Thanks for the info!

Looking at it real quick it looks similar to the one in using for my unit. I use a nano router with NAS and it works beautiful.

I did until @TnA suggested that it would cause my drive to be underpowered and cause eventual failure of by drive or USB. Will it happen? Possibly not but it's worth noting that when I switched from being USB powered to powered by an outlet I no longer have any intermittent stutter on any FMV.
