SNESticle

PS2 SNESticle LBA Fixed

To see this sort of emulation performance with this high of quality sound on PS2 is nothing short of crazy. A few days ago I started a thread on the forums speculating about whether or not the PS2 could deliver full-speed SNES emulation if one were designed from the ground-up on the system and now I have my answer.
Should not suprise anyone. PS2 is not even sweating yet to run SNESticle. This emulator is faster cause it uses the GNU Assembler for DVP that compiles code for the vector units which are co-processors that assists with mathematical and geometry calculations. These were gnmerally written in assembly or using Sony's VLC Tool that helps in the writing of Vector Unit assembly code. But this is very trick to messy with. This is why the homebrew community rarelly uses it. So because of this when you see something like snex9x-libretro (which does not use Vector units.) on PS2 poeple have the impression PS2 is weaker than it actually is. To give an ideia : My PS2 when playing heavy titles of the console goes up to 52ºC degrees pretty quickly. Playing SNESticle never goes up from 46ºC. Now temperature does not tell the whole history I know but is a good indicative about how much the hardware is being stressed or not.

do you guys think this emulator will get even better? considering the source code is available.. right?

I'm sure it will happen at some point. It would take an extremely experienced and talented coder to pick up where this left off, due to the complexity of coding for the VUs.

BTW: Executable in attached disc image is "SLUS_999.99" but in SYSTEM.CNF is written as "SLUS_999_99" which problably prevent booting from it. ;p

Even the ISO I am using right now is using _. I saved as dots have no ideia why. But everytime I saved correctly the ISO with dots but UltraIso is changing to _. But for some reason is working on my OPL. Is it working for you ? I have not seem anyone saying is not booting

As I said despite SLUS_999_99 the ISO is working with OPL. I re-upload making sure is SLUS_999.99 but be aware that I made the ISO as a DVD ISO so burning to a CD will probably not work. I designed this ISO to OPL. My PS2 does has a working drive to test discs. SO if there is a problem with booting SNESticle from a CD or DVD I really don't know. If thre is plz let me know. Also if you bot snesticle from USB and burn your roms to a DVD I don't know which type of format to burning you have select for SNESticle to wok. But if worked with a disc for you let a comment to others see how you did it

PowerISO is not good software for PSX and PS2 images. I.e it messing with LBA.
Of course it will not work if burned on a CD. Different LBA and mode2 required.

Besides that, I don't see any reason to build *.iso anyway, as user must rebuild it with his SNES rom files. Am I wrong?

I didn't try to boot, just opening in IsoBuster to see how it looks like. And I found some of mistakes taken during image creation (CNF/ELF stuff, DOS boot.img etc.). ;)

So now that I reupload I think you need to update the resources

Added a new version to download.

So now that I reupload I think you need to update the resources

Since now the resource belongs to you, you are also able to update it.
Look for "Overview":

Then look for "Post Resource Update":

thanks for the iso hugo.. i got the one you posted originally and it is built properly as a "PS DVD", i can use hdl batcher to install it, random isos from youtube are "Data DVD" and hdl batcher refuses to install

i just added roms with cdgen and change the name of the ELF and that's it

btw, what berion is saying is 100% true.. poweriso is no good for ps2 isos, it works great for converting ps2 bin+cue to iso but you cant mod isos on that thing

It is not. ;)

Also not because it messing with LBA order which You can check by opening disc image, and save as another one, after that compare LBA order both of them (i.e in IsoBuster). If game using LBA as security layer this will cause problems.

For editing CD images use CDMage or CDGenPS2. Those will respect LBA for sure.

Unfortunately both CDgen and Sony CD/DVD Generator was not working work on my W10 PC just give erros. I don't use PowerIso I use UltraISO. I think those programms doesn't get any updates in recently years so that may cause many unknown bugs and problems. UltraISO on the other hand continues to get updates in more modern OS like W10. Anyway LBA has been fixed
