PS3 Spyro Year of The Dragon | PS3 HEN

well give it a try, and try the different options (press triangle i think to change the emulator used) and see if any give a better result,
And it sucks if they didnt release the European version in europe :\

When and where should I press the key combination, as you mentioned?

In irisman when you are on the game list you can press i think triangle for more options for launching (its been awhile so i could be wrong but it should say on screen anyway), it should list all the ps1 emu's on the ps3 to choose from

I am trying to use Irisman, but it won't let me start PS1 games. I have the PS1 games in BIN format. The only games it lets me start are PS3 games.

i didn't even think to ask that..... CUE files are extremely important with PS1 games, no wonder it wasnt working right, Thanks GuilloteTesla i never even considered that (just assumed he was already using a cue file).
Let us know how it goes MikeXDVR, hopefully using a cue and a patched image should make the game work (hopefully)

Yes, both files and with the same name.

I hadn't thought of that at all: I thought the patched .BIN file was enough and nothing more. Does this concept of putting both .BIN and .CUE files in the mentioned folder apply only to Irisman or also to webMan?

I've always preferred ISO images over CUE+BIN, but PS1 ISOs don't work correctly when mounted on the PS3.

CUE+BIN has no issues whatsoever, but Spyro 3 is known to have a very smart anti-copy protection. You'll have to patch it properly.

Don't worry, I'll try it later and let you know. For now, thank you for helping me!

Thank you so much for your explanation! Yes, I know that Spyro 3 needs to be patched. Thank you so much again for helping me understand certain things and where I was going wrong. I'll try doing what you said later and let you know!

I patched the .BIN file with the program "libcrypt-patcher". I moved the .BIN and .CUE files to the "PSXISO" folder. I started Irisman, it finds the game but it doesn't let me run it.
Am I doing something wrong?

I don't know if this will be helpful for you, but this is a good site for all the copy protection stuff, at least I've used it in the past:

https://consolecopyworld.com/psx/psx_patches_s_3.shtml

some companies, like capcom, were big on copy protecting their games to where a legit copy wouldn't even work if it detected a modchip. I think dino crisis comes to mind.

Thank you, but the site you mentioned does not allow the download of patches. I also wrote this on the first page of the thread

Looking online, I found a way to access the mentioned website and download the patches. In the next few days, I will try to patch the game with the patches available on the site.
I will keep you updated!

oh, I didn't notice. sorry 'bout that. it worked last time I tried it, which was many years ago. that's what I had said, but I think I'm restricted on posting due to subsequent double-posts. that may be what's messed up my account, why I have so many java script errors. anyway, I remember dino crisis especially. it had periodic checks for a modchip, so you could be playing the game, then it would crash or something iirc, if you had a modchip installed.

Don't worry, it's all good: I'll keep you updated and if you need to access the patches from the site you mentioned and download them, I'll send you the guide I found

Hello everyone!
Unfortunately, none of the suggestions you've given me have worked.
To summarize: I tried to patch and convert the game into .PKG format, but it crashes at Sheila's first level.
I tried patching the .BIN file and running it via webMan, but it stops at the "Insomniac Games" screen.
I tried running the game through Irisman (moving .BIN + .CUE), but it doesn't allow the game to start.
Any suggestions?

OK well with you previously saying you was only using the .bin when you was doing pop-fe, this time use Pop-Fe again but use the cue with it, and if its still not working do it again but this time tick the "Force ps1_newemu" and see if that gives different results, remember to use the .cue file and NOT the .bin
IF after all that its still not working im really not sure, i dont have the game so i cant really test what does and doesn't work, i am aware of Spyro 3 having the best (or worst depending on how you look at it) copy protection on the ps1 but other people have had it working so not sure what the issue is here, did you check your dump against the redump database's MD5 to make sure you are not using a corrupt bin/cue ?

Hello everyone! Sorry for replying only now, but I had decided to take a break from this "project," and only today I got back to work.
Unfortunately, I have tried every single thing you suggested, but nothing has worked. Any solutions? What am I possibly doing wrong?

That's actually not accurate. The copy protection is subchannel based, just like regular libcrypt, and if you copy it with CloneCD it works just fine.

The cleverness of the copy protection is what happens if the subchannel data is missing and the game detects it's pirated - instead of not running at all like most libcrypt games, it'll let you play the first level but when you talk to that fairy for the first time, she tells you that it seems you're playing a pirated version and things might not work as expected. If you continue, all sort of jank happens - sometimes you lose all your gems at random, the languages switch randomly between English, French, Spanish and German, and if you somehow make it to the final boss, the game will immediately restart - and delete all your save data.

Libcrypt wasn't the only anti-piracy measure implemented on Spyro 3.
