did an experiment with formatting a timetec SSD in my ps3 for testing, so far normal discs, burned backups, and iso boot perfectly. ps1, ps2, and ps3. i also forced a file system check and a rebuild data base just to see if they would error out half way, that went perfectly fine no errors.

again the SSD is a timetec 512GB
comes with 3D NAND flash
model number: SD08

i will update this post as time goes on to see if anything breaks, the next test will be a timetec 1TB SSD.

That's expected. The PS3 should support all, or perhaps almost all, SATA HDDs and SSDs up to 1TB. After 1TB, that's where you'll start encountering issues so it's always recommended to not exceed 1TB. Your 512GB drive should work without issues no matter what brand it is.

I've personally used a wide range of Seagate, Western Digital, Hitachi, Toshiba and more HDD brands in PS3s without any issues. As far as I know, they should all work.

last time i tried to use an ssd in there it stopped booting discs, the drive i used back then was a samsung evo 1TB, thats why i was hesitant at first.

@LeoneFamily That's far from true. Many many SSDs aren't compatible, making problems here and there. For sure ALL 4K sector SSDs without internal translation layer so called 512e, are unsupported (they works but corrupting in time, due to flaws in UFS2 driver).

ok so quick update, we do have an issue with timetec 512GB ssd same thing is happening now after a few days of use all bluray discs now show as data only, doesnt matter if they are burned or retail. as soon as i swap back to normal spinner hdd the problems go away, so there goes that idea for my phat ps3.

Strange. I genuinely tried many different HDD swaps in around 15+ PS3s and they all worked fine for me, so I assumed HDD compatibility wasn't an issue in general on the PS3. So I just got lucky it seems.

Thanks for the info, Berion.
