PS3 Switching internal HDDs between two PS3 without formating

There is not any packing software on PS3 side. The best would be connect HDD to PC and copy data directly to another HDD/SSD/SHDD on PC (if You have ERK dumped of course). Remember to not agree to any disk initialization or You will become a reader of my tutorial how to restore partition table. ;) On Windows use HDD Reader. On Linux You are safe as it is not aggressive, however procedure is much more complicated.

I was reading the webMAN-MOD commands and I found this:

/dozip.ps3/<folder-path> - creates a zip file of a folder
/dozip.ps3/<folder-path>&to=<folder-path> - creates a zip file of a folder in a specific path
/unzip.ps3/<archive-file> - decompress a zip, rar, 7z, bz2, tar or tgz in the same folder
/unzip.ps3/<archive-file>&to=<folder-path> - decompress the archive in a specific path
NOTE: These commands require PKGLAUNCH installed (version 20210217 or later) and /app_home/PS3_GAME

So we are able to compress and decompress files and folders with wMM. I will try to do this later with my emulation files.

@aldostools I couldn't find an example of the usage. When you say <folder-path> should I replace it for <dev_hdd0/ROMS/XYZ> or should it be just dev_hdd0/ROMS/XYZ ?

There a way to extract the key on a ylod console?
Currently, the erk can only be dumped via a hack at spu level which requires both lv1 & lv2 to be exploited. There is no hardware solution to dump erk.
So if your ylod console is on CFW & can still boot & run for at least a few minutes, the answer to your question is yes, otherwise it is no.

Guys, I switched the HDDs and I booted my PS3. It didn't go to XMB, some kind of Recovery menu appeared and asked me to format it.
In the process it also asked me to insert a PENDRIVE with a firmware, then I installed a CFW.

Should I have installed an OFW from this menu when formatting?

I told You few months ago that You cannot switched HDD between two different PS3, because both using different encryption keys for HDD.

HDD from one PS3 (except for arcade models only), will be filled by unknown data on another PS3. When You format it, You will loose all data, and it will be filled by unknown data for source console until You format it on her.

If You install OFW, You will have OFW. If You install CFW, You will have CFW.

This is how to retrieve data from HDD (on Linux, the hard way, but there are links also for latest HDD Reader):

This is what to copy and from where, if You want move data from one HDD to another console/emulator or the same but different HDD:

I did understand everything you told me before. I knew what would happen, I just wanted to be sure if I did the right thing formating by using a CFW of my choice instead of using OFW. Thanks for your tips, it helped me a lot. =)

Sentence about switching HDD has mislead me, because this suggesting that disks can be swapped/switched with content. At last for me it sounds like that.

Yes, You have chose well. Installing OFW is making yourself unnecessary problems (and who knows, maybe in future without webexploit even enormous problems).
