Model: CECHA01
156 days runtime
SYSCON error = 3034 (GPU is dead, correct?)
I also have 2 PS 3 Slim (CECH-3001A and 2XXX) 40nm RSX GPU - based on what I found poking around with Google searches.

recommendations on equipment / methods that members here have found to increase their success with the 90nm --> 40nm GPU swap. Particularly with avoiding overheating the motherboard and making things worse.

I watched RIP Felix's YT posts to get myself up to speed on what's required and, WOW... it's a quite a project.
I love the PS3 backward compatibility model I have and can't seem to part with it :-)
I give myself about a 70% chance of not making it worse and even ending up with a working PS3 A01 that will be more reliable than buying another used one, only to have it fail sooner than later.

Lastly, any "gotchas" with swapping out the SSD from the CECHA01 to a PS3 Slim to backup the games / saves? None are hacked or modified to run custom firmware (yet). I have much more experience with PS2 hacking and never wanted to mess with the PS3s.

Thank you - Gregg

Now to go at this yourself it is a small chance it will work out on first round i do alot of reworking with decent semi pro grade equipment dark IR is what i use to build a good profile expect to destroy a few boards if not 10 to 20 hahah depends i guess :)
You need alot it will cost alot for one unit my man so unless your going to be doing many of these or use the equipment like i do for other things then dont make much sense...

Rework Machine
Stencils / Balls / Jigs / Flux / Paste / Solder Lead Free / Solder Low Melt / Solder Wick
Solder Iron Decent one to Not a 20 Dollar TEMU special
Possibly Hot Air Wand
BGA Tape Foil / Kapton

Still thinking here not real sure man i got all this stuff jsut laying around as you can see hahah

NOw i use to have a store front and lots of big money coming through right before COVID i got a huge contract with AT&T when they bought out cricket so i went on a 1.5 year trip store to store redoing POS / CAM / PHONE racks and networking at each location in the midwest so between that and COVID i shut the shop down i sold alot of stuff but i kept at least one of everything and built a real nerd solder guru repair man cave :)

To get the stuff to fix one unit expect a couple thousand :) and that still might be inferior equipment i mean my rework stations are ah Mehh they work though and better than a hot plate and ghetto air wand heck my weller air wand was 1500 bucks not 100 LOL but i work on a lot of micro board iphone / android phones so got to have soemthing that is high grade plus why not if you use this stuff every day might as well get something nice....

So my take if you want to learn and do this all the time and use the experince for further work then yes start buying and expect lots of failures and let downs :) i can to this day run the porocess flawless and end up with no boot.. IT happens i dont care how good you are all this youtube stuff and this and that they only show you the one success not the 5 previous fails hahah but as you get better you have better results let me think i had 3 good then 4 fails and something was off i figured it out now i have had 12 straight success with a fail yesterday not really a fail a GLOD bad chip or sojmething off with board about to mess with that here in a bit...

Now if ya jsut want a reliable A01
You can find me on eBay with this service if you want to check it out
