PS2 [Testers Needed] OPL internal exfat 2TB+ HDD and multi-BDM devices

Fat PS2/Gamestar/4TB exfat
New v1202: can only see phantom HDD page
Back to old v1201: can see phantom HDD page and real HDD page with the games
Says "settings saved to mass1" but I can't find the cfg on mass1
This version is worse for me, I don't know why

Do you have a usb inserted, are you running opl from usb or Is it on your fmcb card?

I had same issues with it saving the settings to mc:1 find my post on previous page to see how I fixed it

For some reason it had issues saving settings to anything apart from mc:0 first.

Remember to delete the opl folder with the settings in first to have a clean slate

Back up first

I saw your post and tried all scenarios - had FMCB on right mem slot, put it in the left slot and same thing
I tried booting v1202 from USB, same thing
I deleted the OPL folder in the memcard and have no cfg files (so no conf_opl.cfg anywhere)

Have you tried copying opl to your fmbc and running it from their instead of usb, if it runs from usb it tries to save the cfg to usb but fails, you know it has as it says saved within 1 second. If succeful it takes about 3

With opl running from fmcb you can also have it auto run opl from boot of the ps2

Posted earlier about v1.2.01 and had no luck, but 1.2.02 seems to be working for me now, so thank you very much! Have booted a couple games, one CD (Bloody Roar 3) and one DVD (Midnight Club 3: Dub Remix) and both played well. Settings seem to be saving properly with just my Freemcboot memory card and no USB drive plugged in. Running off internal Exfat drive. Still have more testing to do and to set compatibility mods to make sure those are working well, and cover art is INCREDIBLY slow to load (over a minute per cover art on first load) need to test if they remained cached. If there are other things you want me to look into, please let me know.

Sorry, follow up to my last post. Other games seem to be working and my compatibility settings are being properly saved. Minor issues I'm having is that when I try to exit OPL to return to browser, my PS2 freezes and I have to hard reset. Same thing happens when I try pressing the button combination to return to OPL while in game. A minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things since the primary functions are working, but it may be something you want to look into. Once again, thank you so much! This project is awesome!

I tried running v1202 from usb and from memory card, neither way does it save settings or show the HDD games which showed in v1201. I also noticed that OPL crashed to a black screen if I don't enable the HDD option (beneath BDM in the Settings menu) in addition to the BDM option (which now includes a HDD option). Tried with and without the USB stick. Looks like I'm the only one who can't get this to work.

Thanks for the new build @grimdoomer!

Done a bit of testing, again here is my setup:
Console: SCPH-50010
OPL build: 1.2.0.2
HDD: 4 TB WD Blue exFAT formatted HDD
USB: 16 GB stick (using to launch OPL beta builds, no games)

Online functionality all confirmed working now:
.hack//fragment
Gran Turismo 4 Online Public Beta
ATV Offroad Fury 2
I may pick up a few more games to test, but unless someone reports something specific I think this is fixed now.

IGR regressions seen in the following games compared to 1.2.0.1 build:
.hack//fragment
Ace Combat 4
Ace Combat 5
Ace Combat Zero
Gran Turismo 3
Xenosaga Episode 1

Just a small sample of games I tried. I don't usually use IGR but there does seem to be an issue with it in this latest build. Hope this helps narrow down the issue.

Okay the new build is ready: https://github.com/grimdoomer/Open-PS2-Loader/releases/tag/v1.2.0.2-beta

Change log for this release:
  • [Fixed] OPL displaying error 221 no hard drive connected when no HDD is plugged in.
  • [Fixed] OPL corrupting GPT formatted hard drives. APA driver ends up writing a bunch of data to the drive which corrupts the GPT partition table.
  • [Fixed] Needing to have HDD support enabled in addition to BDM devices. "HDD" has now been added to the list of BDM devices in the settings menu.
  • [Fixed] There's a "phantom" HDD Games menu that shows with nothing in it.
  • [Fixed] BDM device hot plugging support. BDM devices that can be removed (USB, iLink, MX4SIO) can now be "hot-plugged" while in OPL and the game menus for them will appear and disappear accordingly.
  • [Fixed] Not being able to set UDMA mode for games on exFAT HDD.
  • [Fixed] Issues with games that have online support. See the list of games below for more details.
I tested this build while running it from a memory card. If you have issues I would suggest backing up and deleting any old config files on all attached devices and trying to run OPL again.

Alas, this test build (i.e. build 1984) completely freezes on me, and at no time whatsoever does the game list appear. I recorded the behavior LIVE as it happened in a 1+ hour Tutorial & Test video on my YouTube Channel Togonzo Media, and the last 20 to 40 minutes of the video was me trying to chase or isolate the issue. As I state in the video's description, my OPL.CFG file in its current state FREEZES on build 1984 but works perfectly on your previous 1980 build, and I'm attaching it here. In an effort to chase down this bug, I set all the AutoStart settings to "Manual" and confirmed two major bugs ...

1. Enabling the HDD support under BDM Devices freezes OPL build 1984 on my end. Every. Single. Time. Since build 1980 doesn't have this feature, I'm strangely enough unaffected by it.

2. Setting BDM Device autostart to Manual, save your OPL config, exit and restart Build 1984. Upon restart, the cursor defaults to BDM Games. Move the cursor over to HDD Games or APPS and then try to move it back to BDM Games, and it will fail. The cursor can never go back to BDM Games because the device was not manually started immediately after OPL loads. Moving the cursor to HDD Games breaks being able to go back ...

Since the previous builds I released have the potential to corrupt data on the HDD I would recommend doing a fresh format of your HDD if you are experiencing any issues. I have removed the other two releases from my github to spare anyone else from using them and potentially corrupting their drive.

Ironically, it's the 1980 build that works best for me at the moment ...

When using an internal HDD formatted as exFAT you no longer need to turn on HDD support. Instead you should turn on BDM support and under the BDM Devices menu enable "HDD".

This is what freezes Build 1984 solid and never produces a games list ... :(

Not sure how for some people it works fine in all aspects and some are having major issues

Loading game list takes ages
Booting to black screen
Covers slow to load
Not finding drive

Maybe it's down to hard drive issues or adapter issues or ps2 model.

I have had some saving issues but that's it, on first boot it showed 310 games within seconds and art loads in around 1-2 seconds

I'm having the exact same problem with the newest build, and there is definitely a conflict with the previous build. What HDD adapter were you using? I have a Gamestar.

Another thing I've now tested: Renaming games through OPL crashes the PS2, though the change DID properly save and on a hard reboot, the file is renamed. Weird issue.

I've been testing a few games with a Samsung SSD formatted as exFAT, with GPT. Ape Escape 3 seems to run fine without any special modes. Had black screen issues with Naruto Ultimate Ninja 5, but seemed to be fixed with a few modes turned on. Tony Hawk's American Wasteland needs Mode 2 to get past the loading screen, however, the game freezes after playing it for a few minutes. Already tried with different modes, same thing happens. Also tried the new build, with no luck.

Console: SCPH-50001 with modbo 5.0 modchip
OPL build: 1.2.0.2
Game Star Network Adaptor
HDD: 160GB Hitachi exFAT format

Didn't get to work on modbo USB boot option. Only black screen.
It's boots if i open it with uLaunchELF but OPL can't show the HDD games.
Booting from the memory card works whitout issues, game list and artwork loads pretty fast and games loads fast too.
Didn't test much games, but all are working as they should.
But, i don't know why, if I press the reset button on the console, the games freezes and I need to shutdown the console and then power on again.

Even so, I think it's a very promising project that will make life easier for many people, as they no longer need to use Winhiip.
I will follow the progress for sure.

Update: ape escape 3 froze on a black screen after entering a building, almost as if I took the disc out while playing the disc version. I'm gonna test it with the regular OPL to rule out other possible causes.

Rename is not working for me either just tested it.

It worked in last build as used it about 6 times.

If you change the name and go back it looks the same, on reboot it has changed

If you rename it and when you go back it looks the same and you try again, you will not have access to the drive, opl menu can be reached.

If you rename it but it looks like it has not worked you will loose access to the drive in a few seconds later.

If rename it but it looks like it has not worked but try to run the game instantly it says error could not run item then you will loose access to drive.

At no time does opl freeze you can still access the settings menu, you just loose access to the drive.

It's not an app breaking issue, it's just handy to use sometimes
