PS2 [Testers Needed] OPL internal exfat 2TB+ HDD and multi-BDM devices

I don't think it is necessary to update to a "non-grindoomer" version, on Twitter there are already testers showing the correct operation of memcard pro 2 with the current OPL.
On OPL github (official), I made a request for large disk support, you can support it if you want. Or, create a more elaborate one

The Grimdoomer version that supports exFAT is too old to have the gameID support that memcard pro 2 needs i believe. If someone has added it to the last version that supports exFAT for large HDDs then please link me to it. That would be perfect.
Large 2tb+ HDD (exFAT) support, easy HDD access on a PC (exFAT) and Memcard Pro 2 support would be the final version of OPL that I ever need.

When the first tweets about memcard pro 2 (its manufacturing and development) began to appear, they already established that from the beginning it would be compatible with open loader game id. Even their website says this, since June.
Well, at some point I will receive mine and I can check it out.

Admittedly I don't know how the program works, but the Memory Card Pro 2 is set up to work with real hardware and real discs as well correct? Wouldn't the card just be able to read the info from the disc/iso regardless of boot method? Even Grimdoomer's OPL knows what each discs serial is, because it uses it for loading art, so the info is still there. Maybe OPLs 'new features' go beyond the basic saving/loading on a per game basis?

so is this officially abandonware? is no one else going to fork this and continue working? i still use this method and its a great piece of kit... just wish we could have someone continue with more advances.

What bothers me is that I am forced to use this fork, since I bought a 4TB disk especially for this, and, as far as I know, the disk will not be recognized by the original fork even if I change to the old partition system.

I really need some assistance. Finally, I managed to get the grimdoomer version up and running, and I was able to play games a few times. However, most of the time, after turning it off, the PS2 fails to read the HDD anymore. It just shows a never-ending loading screen on both OPL and Ulaunchelf, with no games appearing. I've tried using two different drives, a 500tb SSD and a 3tb HDD, but neither of them seems to work. I've been struggling with this issue for the past couple of days. I did make some changes to the files, realizing that I was booting OPL from my USB drive. So, I switched it to my second memory card and redirected everything accordingly. However, I'm unsure if this is the cause of the problem. Both of my memory cards are OEM, with one having LaunchElf v4.43a and the other having LaunchElf v4.43x_isr. I'm using the gamestar adapter and attempting to use the latest grimdoomer release.

Interestingly, I also encountered the same glitch with the art not loading when a guitar hero controller is plugged in, just like Stacatto mentioned. Initially, I thought it was due to a weak connection between the hard drive and the adapter, but now I'm completely confused.

Should I consider downgrading to an earlier grimdoomer release or try a different version of launchelf? It's quite challenging to pinpoint the exact issue when it only works sporadically.

is normal that with opl exfat version the VCD for pops are not working in opl? i can't see them. all right files are in their right places of course

This fork is based on original OPL without the PS1 page seen in DB so you'll have to create a title.cfg/conf_apps.cfg entry for them, copy the POPSTARTER.ELF and renaming it to XX.(VCD NAME).ELF and load it via the APPS page.
Also, even if you managed to put the VCD files in your exFAT HDD, POPStarter won't be able to boot them due to the emulator are still using the legacy APA/PFS HDD drivers which means no exFAT internal HDD support.
And seeing it was closed source and the development was pretty much stopped, I don't think the exFAT iHDD support will ever be added.
But at least you can use the exFAT USB drives with BDMAssault.

hi thanks for reply.
can you explain in detail how to create this on the hdd? create a title.cfg/conf_apps.cfg entry
a shame that BDMAssault is only for usb, i'm only using internal drive, no external.
also i remember that i used time ago VCD from external usb fat32 usb, i can still use this? how? i forgot

So we have the new memcard pro 2 working great with this but no more continued support for this project? Still some bugs. Outrun 2006 still crashes no matter what I do.
Any chance someone else will pick this up? This is probably the most significant upgrade in years!

So, does this fork support over 2 TB USB/FireWire devices and microSD cards (via MX4SIO) or only over 2 TB internal HDDs/SSDs/SSHDs?

I'm running OPL 1.2.0.6 on a 30004-R console, running FMCB and playing off of a TOSHIBA 2.5" 750Gb HDD using a Game Star network adapter with a sata connector. HDD is formatted to exFAT using 512 allocation size. All connected devices would be my controller (just one when used), mem card with FMCB (in mc1, leaving mc0 empty), aforementioned HDD and a SanDisk cruzer blade 32Gb USB stick.

So I discovered that OPL freezes when launching a game title when launched from mem card. (Edit: debug colors gives a freeze on magenta screen.) Though if I launch it from USB through uLaunchELF, it can play games seemingly as normal.

I'm sorry if I'm echoing a known issue; I couldn't find anything about it and thought to bring it to light as it's bothering me.

A new beta version of the official OPL has been released 4 days ago. I'm not sure what it brings though.
Hi, can you please share the link? Thanks.

Try this: Under "settings," go to the "block devices" menu and switch to HDD on. It worked for me, hopefully works for everyone else.

I had big delay during scrolling my gamelist. This was reported by some Reddit users as well. Even with covers disabled, it was very laggy to scroll from a game to another, as if something was loading in the background.

I think I found the reason: art+cfg loading files. It seems OPL (at least, the grimdoomer's) seeks and/or loads the corresponding cfg file within the CFG folder. I first tried to disable covers and to remove my CFG folder and I had massive perf, with absolutely no delay during scrolling.

In my case, I previously copied a cfg pack with over 12k files, which caused a 5 seconds scrolling. I cleaned the unused CFG with OPL Manager and now it's far more bearable. There is still a bit of delay, due to how OPL seems to handle cfg + loading art files.

Has anyone here experienced the same thing? Is this the same for the original version?
I'm using the new naming system, maybe that's linked?

It's a shame this fork seems abandonned

I'm hopping on board with the Grimdoomer OPL version.
I got an 8TB Samsung QVO SSD all set up and working on my PS2 with GD's OPL working fine.
I'm in the middle of populating my games list, I only have a few PS2 games on the SSD atm.

The trouble I had setting up the GM OPL fort the first time was: I had to format the SSD with an allocation unit size of 512K for it to work.
And I found this guide the most helpful:

Yes, I did notice on GitHub that it hasn't been updated since May 27, 2023.
Very disappointing because I think this is the next big step for OPL.

My first GD OPL question:
I notice it doesn't load CD based PS2 games.
How do I convert the CD based games (.bin .cue format) to ISO for them to work? Like is there a recommended program to do it?

Right now, I'm trying WinBin, I see that came recommended earlier for this job.
