PS3 Transfer User profile from dead PS3 to new one

Recently, my cech-3001a slim console suffered from GLOD, thankfully I was able to backup some files before. Which are:
- xregistry.sys
- whole content of /home/00000004/ (user profile)
- Unencripted vmc for ps2 games.

Now i'm getting a PS3 Super slim (not sure which model number), and I would like to transfer my saved data of my ps2 classics games and ps3 to the new console.

I was thinking of doing the following:

1- Install HEN on new console.
2- Restore xregistry.sys and /home/00000004/

Would I need to restore database after this? The console will even boot? I don't really need to keep the same user profile, but I think it's the easiest way of restoring my saved games without messing with resigning individually each file.

I am unsure and so do not want to say yes or no either way (regarding just needing to rebuild the database) and give wrong information, so I tagged Berion and hopefully he will reply when he has time. Of course others may also be able to provide the answer you're looking for, but as I have not gone through the process myself I don't want to give you bad info either way.

Unfortunately, xRegistry.sys is bound to the original PS3 you got it, so it will bring issues to your new console. Best way is to read its values and start setting them one by one by hand (I know, it's a pain, but this way you won't have any problems).

Regarding the user folder, you first need to check which user number corresponds to the main user in your new PS3. After that, you will have to move all the needed files, one by one, into the corresponding folders via FTP.

Bear in mind that the /exdata folder contains all the license RIF files for your purchased content, which are tied to your original PS3. So, if you copy+paste those files in your new console, they won't work.

Savegames for the PS3 will require to be resigned using Apollo Save Tools. VMC for the PS2 are not signed but requires some little steps in order to make a simple copy+paste:

  1. Create a blank PS2 memory card with the same name as the .VM2 card file that has your saves.
  2. Once created, copy over the backedup .VM2 file from your old PS3 to /dev_hdd0/savedata/vmc/ on your new PS3.
  3. Boot a PS2 game and the system will refresh the metadata automatically. Now, exit the game to XMB and everything will be there.

On different console, xRegistry.sys will not be accepted, PS3 will boot to BSOD, but after that she will do something with this file and be fine (I never bother to investigate this so I don't know details, old settings, profiles and IDs are preserved). Never heard about any other issues.

So yes, what You described is fine under condition You didn't try rebuilding database before xRegistry be accepted, and You didn't trying run any game before that.

Licenses will not work because are tied to IDPS from old console, until You will spoof it on newer (I'm not sure if this works on HEN, invalid act.dat for sure be deleted on VSH start). However, You can decrypt RIFs to RAFs on PC if You have IDPS (or NAND/NOR dump because IDPS lies inside in plain text) and act.dat from old console. RAFs are klicense alone so can be used to forge RIFs anywhere.

Making blank VMCs is not needed. Rebuild database will find them, add them and saves inside.
