I have a ps3 cfw 4.90 and im using a ps4 controller but the home button dosent work so whenever i want to quit a game i press the turn off button and turn it on again so i could go to the XMB Will this Harm My Ps3? Or just the game save data?

You should, at least, go back to the main menu, or title screen, before quitting. I read that a long time ago. It was regarding the GameCube, but it makes sense, seeing how the least amount of stuff is in RAM during those screens.

If I understood You right, due to unable invoke XMB by PS Button (which not exist on DS4), You pressing PS3 back button cutting off power? If so, that's very bad idea. Because if game caching data in that moment, one of partition (dev_hdd1) can be simply corrupted which cannot be fixed on PS3 side, by other means than format entire drive (possible on PC, but You need Yours EID Root Key). If You mean pressing/touching and keep pressed/touched power button/touch button, then it is fine (annoying to You but safe to HDD data).

Save data can be corrupted, just like partition on which it is saved (dev_hdd1) if You turn off console during save creating or overwriting. No matter the method You use.

So turning it off by pressing the power off button while playing a game is fine? After i turn it off i turn it again is it okay?

Yeah before i turn it off i go the home screen of the game and save my data then press the power off button and after it turns off i turn it back on, so is safe to do this? Will it harm my ps3 or damage it?
