Hi!
This tutorial is intended for those who are in OFW and need to install a large PKG via USB.
My apologize for a broken English; it is not my primary language

EDIT: AFTER SOME GAMES I SPLIT WITH THE FIRST TOOL, I NOTICED THAT IT DOES NOT REPACK SOME FILES! IT MAY AFFECT THE CONTENT FUNCTIONALITY!
Stay tunned for more information . . .
In this thread you may find two auto extract-split-repack PKG tools.
I will explain only how to use the first at it is easier and more friendly:
1. Download Aldo's PS3 Tools Collection from
here.
2. Install Aldo's Tools.
3. Run with administrative privileges at least once the "PKG_ContentID.exe"; this will make appear a cascade style menu with PKG options in your Windows Context Menu (It is the one that appears when you right-click a file). If it is not enough to make it appear, run also "PkgView.exe". Both are located in the main root patch of ps3tools folder.
4. Once you located the PKG you want to split,
right-click it > PKG Tools > Split PKG. (See example)
5. A window will open and you just have to be patient. Very patient. Keep in mind that you are working with large size files so it will take a while to extract the file, separate it and then repack it.
6. Once the program finish, you may find in the PKGs next to the original PKG plus a folder were the program make all the work. Just transfer the splitted PKGs to your USB stick.
7. Enable Debug PKG installer in HAN.
NOTE: With HAN you can install Debug PKGs for PS3 content with no problem; you may save time avoiding the resigning with ps3xploit_rifgen_edatresign.exe tool as discussed
here. Only PSx/PS2/PSP content must be resigned. Just keep in mind that in order to intall original PKGs, including updates, you need to restart your PS3 in order to reset the Debug PKG exploit.
8. Install the PKGs in the order you prefer as this will not do any difference.
9. That's it! As simple as that.
Example picture. Note the splitted PKG:

Some background:
As you may know, only USB drive with FAT32 file format works with the PS3, which restrings the maximum file size to 4GB and that is a problem for backups larger than that.
This method is useful for those who, like me, had several problems with the server transfer method. Also, the server method have to download the file first, then install it, which needs twice of the storage capacity; via USB the file will only be installed.
About the second tool:
DISCLAIMER: This tool is not finished, use it with caution.
It is a Windows batch that will
(i) extract,
(ii) split and
(iii) create a pkg per divided content. I did not finish it because
Aldo answer to my thread and give me a hint about his Tool that already do this.
However, I am sharing it anyway because:
1. It extracts the PKG content MUCH faster than PkgView (thanks to PS3P_PKG_Ripper.exe by Rudi);
2. It allows you to modify the PKG content before the tool repack it, useful to rip the game content from localization content, which, sometimes, will heavily reduce the size of the resulting PKGs.
As mentioned first, it is not finished; a know bug occurs when repacking the PKG. Nevertheless, you can just
right-click > make PKG each separated folder and you are done!

Hope this helps.
