PS3 (Research/Experimental) - NEC/TOKIN Capacitors Replacement - YLOD

can u learn me how to do that by video?

You can always buy a reel of copper tape and kapton tape and have a go yourself. I haven't done it but I'd try the following:
- Cut a piece of thin card about the same size as a NEC Cap
- Cover the card in kapton
- Make sure you have two seperate copper tracks taped around the card. Allocate one as +ve and one as -ve; you don't want any bridging or shorts!

Experiment a bit and use @Workz_777 posts and pictures as a guide/inspiration.

The only thing I'd want to clarify is how they are soldered to the pads. I'm guessing it's soldered on at each corner.

*edit, changed care to card

Is it possible to remove the NEC/TOKINs and put some new ones on without that equipment? Any help or tips is appreciated :encouragement:[/QUOTE]

Sorry for being harsh but you might as well put it in the bin.

I will probably have a go at making some of these down the line, I might get impatient and do it soon; if there's still no video up I'll make one. But I really urge you to have a go yourself. The tape is inexpensive and it's just a piece of card. Have a go and post some photos before you solder anything on.

Make sure you understand about capacitors and polarity, positive and ground. Basic electronics. I know you want a video but before you do anything just and understand you know what you're doing and why you're doing it.

And to get the basic understanding Mymatevince has several repair videos covering the capacitor issue on YouTube all in simple English - lenghty and detailed with pictures.
Matthew: 7:7 Search and you will find.

Thanks, I guess there's no easy fix on old consoles

Your best bet is to create a new thread in the relevant subforum, with as much information as possible about your issue, for the best chance of getting some assistance with it.

Search and ye shall find! youtube has heaps of tutorials on soldering -- here's a few good ones

part 3 --

--Voultar reviewing a quality soldering station (Seriously, anything Voultar is great, just watch for language)

--Here's one where Ben Heck teaches someone how to solder

--Another one where he goes over smd work

--And another one by Ben!

i removed 2 each RSX NEC and solder 8 each 6.3v 470uf on RSX.still YLOD.
i should say i just put the power supply on the board and turn it on.without installing that metal plate and wifi and etc..

Hiya All, hope everything at your end is doing very well.

:D...take 2, so i re-did the Tantalum + MLCCs combination (just on the bridge wire only), this time i doubled checked the (+) and (-) lol, so far the PS3 is running great!

For this build i added another MLCC to the array from before, so now total capacitors = 72.

Each NEC has been replaced with:-
Tantalums (Vishay size B):
4 x 470uF - 2.5V
MLCCs (Murata, Taiyo Yuden, Vishay, size 1206)
1 x 22uF - 10V
1 x 10uF - 10V
1 x 1uF - 10V
1 x 0.1uF - 10V
1 x 0.01uF - 10V

Using thin card, wrapped in Kapton tape, with "slug (copper) tape" to make the traces, also the traces are wrapped around under touching the board on the contact strips. Here's the (B) side of board...

:very drunk: Again thanks so much for spotting my silly mistake on my last build. I'm gonna aim to test this latest working set up and update you guys soon all being well, just need to run some intensive games. Unfortunately i don't have an o-scope to measure anything, i wish i did though, maybe soon.
