PS3 [Tutorial] (Read Warning) Installing Red Ribbon Linux on Rebug 4.81.2 - 4.84.2 D / REX

yes, and it is on fat32, i also tried /var/petitboot/mnt/sda1. then it says permission denied
Have you made sure the usb drive works properly with the ps3? i know that for some it doesnt work due to the stick not being compatible with their systems.

The Rebug version to install had also been working with this USB, anyways i am going to buy new ones. Wich device would you recommend? I go to buy it and retry later in the afternoon. if it doesen't work i will text you again here.

If you managed to install Rebug with that usb then it should be fine.

I still have to apologize for having taken your time because of my previous problem. It's almost a bit embarrassing, after tiped in cd everytime i forgot to press the space bar :hopelessness:. but i want to say anyway thank you for the really really good support dazzaXx you are the men:D. but sadly now i have another issue: on step 14 when i want to boot up again petitboot then it didn't show me the live option and when i want to scroll, it looks exactly like the last 2 images ManoLLo had posted.

I suggest reformatting your usb so it has nothing on it (FAT32), and make sure to extract all the contents of the .iso to it, use something like 7-Zip or Winrar.

i've yet to find thumndrive that won't work when properly formatted on the ps3 and i've used boatloads of them.main thing is to check if it's mbr as if in any point of time that thumbdrive was used for modern OS istalation (windows 8 and later, various linux distros,PE's,chromeOS based variants) there's really big chance that it's converted to gpt (uefi) and ps3 won't see it,and pc will.

any good partitioning software (like partition wizard free, for example) can convert gpt to mbr even without data loss.

it is on MBR

about step 14: i have made it. i downloaded the iso from the official website and then i could ectract the 4 folders. but now i stuck on automatic partitioning when i press continue it loads like this:
expr: division by zero
expr: syntax error
expr: syntax error
Error: The location O,1,Ochs is outside of the device /dev/ps3dd.
I hope you can help me.

I have found out now, it is becouse of the same issue. For some reason, i can not create a free store for other os. now when i'm in petitboot it show up straightly the live option but when i want to ./create_hdd_region.sh go back to petitboot and when i want to scroll it will be laggy as much as it can. When i boot up the live option it will works to the point at install red ribbon at the automatic partitioning then it gives me the error that i described earlier.
please i hope you really can help. so close to the goal, it should not fail:rolleyes:

guys im so sorry. I did it. it finally worked:D i made the mistake that i install the wrong rebug version, already had a huge mess on the desktop. you made a great jop guys im really really happy thank you so much for all including the support :D

Cute but a couple of annoying questions, fluff.. ^^ First of all is what's the boot time like? And second, does the Kernel have sufficient drivers for things to be GPU accelerated? :o

Using the browser of Linux will I be able to watch videos from any site?
Yeah, but the build of Linux is outdated so you wont get the full features a modern browser has, also they might stutter due to how intensive the browser is on the system by itself.

annoying it's to have useless people like that around here.
If you are referring to me not replying when you first posted, i do have other things to do daily that take more priority than this, as well as we are most likely in different time zones too. So next time if you are going to call people "useless", don't expect to get help at all.

The boot time is fairly decent, although sometimes the system can stutter depending on how much you have running.

I don't know this personally, but i think a while back someone was making some sort of patch to enable full GPU acceleration. But i might be wrong on that.

Thank you very much, that's all I wanted to know.

I did not refer to you but to the user Chaos Husky who gave me a very rude response above, including my message is marked in response to it, so I do not know how you may not have understood. Anyway, I apologize if somehow you felt offended, because I did not mean to offend you in any way.

Oh my bad, i thought you meant me haha, no problem mate.

Guys keep it civil take it elsewhere. We are a community some more knowledgeable then others. We all have to start somewhere as we were all n00bs at one point. What's annoying is listening to grow men act like keyboard commands. It's not right to belittle someone and that doesn't give anyone a reason to fire back. This is how communities fall apart. We have been drama free since day one as well as a tight knit group of users. Like your mom's most likely said "If there isn't something nice to say just don't say it at all"
