PS2 [Tutorial] The Great PS2 AIO Guide

Hey Guys

I have now modded a PS3 Fat and a PS3 slim they are pretty easy to do both running CFW cuurently, I just picked upa PS2 Fat Model: SCPH-39001. Wjats the best method to Jailbreak it? I read about FreeMCBoot and watched a video but I need to buy an adpater for IDE to Sata. Or should I use FreeHDBoot?

Thanks

IDE HDDs are older (prone to failure), expensive, smaller (as for internal space), hotter... so yes, better if you use a new SATA HDD.

You can either buy a SATA clone adapter or a SONY one (it has a IDE port, so you'd need either a IDE to SATA adaptor or a SATA board from BITFUNX, maxdiypower or others).

About choosing between FHDB or FMCB it depends on your tastes. With FHDB you don't need a MC to be inserted since the softmod is on the HDD.
I prefer FMCB because Ps2 boot is much faster, plus I don't want the HDD to power-on at start-up (i.e. when playing something from disc or USB).

You don't need ide to sata. The sata board is only for if your using a sata hdd.
Really, its personal preference. FMCB and FHDB do the same thing apart from one residing in a memory card and the other in a HDD

I watched a "How to Softmod ANY Fat PS2! | FreeMCBoot & FreeHDBoot Install Tutorial; by Mr Mario. I really don't want to use a hard drive so I can just use FreeMCBoot and I won't need any hard drive? Thanks

Yes, you can use FMCB only.

You can also use both!
With FMCB it will skip the intro-sequence and hence boots pretty much as fast as FMCB does...

One thing I can advice here is looking up compatibility.

Internal HDD - Best game compatibility.
Network shares - Good game compatibility.
USB HDD - Poor game compatibility.

So, if you decide not to use an internal HDD, the amount of games you can play drops significantly

Thanks I will look at that then. So Add an internal drive but convert from IDE to SATA using an adapter is best?

Well, Sata to ide board doesn't give you any real benefit in terms of performance. But sata drives are far more easier to get hold of than an IDE drive. You also have the benefit of being able to attach it to your PC for faster content transfers, dependant on what connectors you have on your motherboard.

Hey

I installed FDVDB on a PS2 slim. Since there is no option for an internal drive are most games compatable with an external usb drive? I found some lists but they are not clear whenit comes ot the slim model. I know the Fat model works great with the IDE to Sata and internal drive

Thanks

  1. You certainly did NOT "install FDVDB" onto anywhere, because FDVDB doesn't get installed in the first place.
  2. Compatible, yes for the most part.
  3. You can use LAN on a Slim, to laod your games.

Opps sorry meant I installed FreeMCboot using FreeDVD. I copied a bunch of game to an external usb drive but wondering if they are compatable using this method on slim

K so I used USBUtil does this fragment games? I know it was showing games like this SLUS 201.151.1, 201.151.2 etc is this okay?
windows can defrag the device under properties. there are also plenty of free programs for windows and other operating systems to do it.
