PS2 [Tutorial] The Great PS2 AIO Guide

Hello
very nice and detailed instructions.
I just didn't understand, if I have a hard drive and I don't have a memory card, can I save the settings and where?

Majority of apps doesn't support HDD, so they store settings only on MC. I.e SMS cannot, that's why author of this disk image, put his own config files on specified folder for manual copy to memory card.

Anyway, You shouldn't use disk images. It is easy way but can be problematic in future due to APA structure and it's support in homebrew apps. I strongly recommend to set everything from scratch by Your own.

"please fast reply" won't get you anywhere in a board/forum...

NO! Do NOT use RWs on a PS2!
Read the tutorial! It specifically mentions "DVD-R" MULTIPLE times!

Of course You can't. If Sony allows read games from DVD-/+R/RW than why someone would soldering a modchip or hacking the console? And why game developers would distributing games on such console which in no way protecting their sells incomes?

Last time, exploit called FreeDVDBoot was released which only one allows You to run homebrew or games from such discs but only on firmware with specific DVD-Player versions range. And of course disc images must be patched to disguise as DVD-Video.

Depend of laser type, quality and state, You can use DVD-RW (not DVD+RW) and/or DVD+R but RW is bad idea in the first place as it is hardest disc type for PS2 to read and in case of DVD+R, they are fine and even better than DVD-R but not all laser read them. So in summary, the best way is just to use DVD-R.

On top of that. Currently disc quality and burners quality are very low and burning results in high Jitter and high PIE/PIF errors rate. That's not PS2 friendly which have shitty ODD. Today no one buying such things for archiving so to keep lowest possible price, producers make bad media. The only thing from optical business today are top Blu-Ray burners with BD-R HTL (LTH is a junk). Just FYI.

Trust me, unless you have a 39004 (or previous), the lens (or somenthing else in the optical drive) will break much quicker using burned DVDs (of any type, and with RW it will happen even sooner).

Even perfectly burned discs make the autofocus and the other mechanisms to try harder. Especially certain Ps2 slim models get damaged very soon (one year of playing is the average, just in my experience, personal and from friends), for this reason there's the need of the lens fix (I'm not expert on this matter but it's pratically a voltage limiter).

i have already tryed burning games iso in dvd-r and it worked but i was asking about dvd-rw, and it didnt work with dvd-rw i tryed it

DVD+/-RWs can hardly be read by any PS2 and it gets worse depending on the brand, how and by what it was written to, etc.

Playing a game from RW WILL destroy your laser, or degrade its functionality or life-span!
It's not an "if", but "when"...!

You want to play games from RW?
If you want to destroy your laser, go ahead!

Edit: It might not work for you, but your generalizing statement is not correct.
It can work from RW, if the PS2 can read it!

Given that it already doesn't work for you, you either burned it wrong, or your disc-writer produces too many correctable errors, or your media were not good, or you "burned" it wrong.
That's a sign to not use RWs!

It could also be the Ps2 lens isn't 100% good anymore or needs adjustmente on the trimmers. So it can't read backups from a DVD-RW (that's generally the most difficult support to read from, and it get worse with use).

  • IMGBurn
  • Settings / Write / Page1 / "perform OPC" = ON
  • Preferably a Desktop-Writer, instead of a Laptop-Writer
  • Good Media (Verbatim, Tayo Yuden, etc.)
  • Write-speed depends on the media and writer. If it is a Laptop-Writer write a bit slower.
