PS2 [Tutorial] The Great PS2 AIO Guide

Is WinHiip the app I should be using to put my game ISO's onto a HDD from a PC? My collection is less than 256 games. The reason why I'm asking is that I've heard about 'HDL Dump Helper GUI' and 'HDLGameInstaller'. Not sure which is easiest to use?

Also is OPL Manager another option or is that to manage the games once they are on the HDD?

Also can I use @imkira3's Pre-Configured RAW Image (Thanks Kira) and then start using WinHiip to load my games onto the HDD or is there a need to connect the HDD to the PS2 after I've flashed the raw image and before I start using WinHiip? Does the PS2 need to do anything to the HDD before I start loading my games?
sorry for the dumb questions, thanks all!

Use "HDL Batch Installer" or "PFS Batchkit Manager" on PC or "HDL Game Installer" via LAN or to install on the PS2 from disc.

Do NOT use any RAW Image or WinHIIP!

I suppose "PFS Batchkit Manager" is what would help you in most cases. Also... Format via wLE!

Thanks @TnA much appreciated. I'll use "HDL Batch Installer" or "PFS Batchkit Manager".

To double check - I plan on using FreeHDBoot, so regarding your comment on flashing RAW images, I shouldn't use imkira3's pre-configured FHDB RAW Image which has homebrew, emulators and artwork for OPL? It's listed in Step 2 from the Guide in this thread?

I have a 500GB Western Digital 2.5 hard drive and a USB to SATA cable so my PC can interact with the 500GB Western Digital 2.5 hard drive.

Thanks heaps - sorry for the basic questions.

Tried using FreeDVDBoot (All PS2 Slims - English language.iso) on my PS2 with 3.11D DVD Player version and console can't read the disk, system isn't modded and reads disk fine. Bad blank DVD-R? Tried using lowest speed, my PC DVD drive is pretty much new it burns blanks fine.

UPDATE
Tried playing DVD movie to check if my system can play them and it does then I put FreeDVDBoot disk and it booted immediately. False alarm:courage:

Hey out there, tried to install FMCB Hack on a Sony 8 MB MagicGate Card. Starting with FDVDB works just fine but after selecting FMCBInstaller.elf from 8 GB USB flash drive the TV turns black, the controller LED turns off and nothing else happens. Console is a Slim one SCPH-77004, drive version is 3.11e. The stick is FAT32 and is recognized by start.elf just fine. Meanwhile I've copied all the files from the FMCB installer archive but without success. Has someone any clues?

EDIT: Okay it looks like something was wrong with the USB flash drive, after using a Verbatim one fomated with standard cluster size (that may be important) it works just fine.

Hello...

If I want to play PS1 aswell as PS2 Games what would be the Option/Constellation with the most game compatibility ?

One of the methods described here or a modchipped console ?

So that is the one method nowadays with the highest possible game compatibility ? Maybe I should note that I would use a PAL PS2.
Which specific model?

Also, keep in mind you can always use a third party homebrew to boot into whatever the OSDSYS prevents you from loading

Well after researching about MechaPwn it seems I am out of luck... works only on 75004 and up Consoles if they are PAL.

And guess what... they dropped hardware compatibility for PS1 Games with 75004 and up. :glee:

I dont own a PS2 at the moment... I would get one specifically for usage with the best method considering game compatibility like I said.

MechaPwn works on all PS2 with Dragon, which means all SCPH-5xxxx and newer. Everything You have written in readme on github project page... Also all consoles support PSX games, and none of PS2 have 100% compatibility with them, no matter if they have IOP or Decard instead. ;)

Umm but as far as I understood that Github page as long as it is a PAL Console that I use it wont work ?

"Why do PAL/NTSC-J consoles do not play NTSC/PAL discs (on scph-70000 and earlier) ?

The IOP ROM on those consoles have enforced strict logo decryption checks both in the PS1 and PS2 BIOS which the NTSC-U (also used in ASIA consoles) BIOS does not have."

Doesnt that basically mean that if I try to run a backup of a pal/ntsc/whatever PS1 or PS2 Game that it wont launch or am I too stupid to understand this ? Or is this just original discs that wont work and backups do ?

Original discs. But they You can launch copies patched making them "debug discs".
Or maybe it is me who don't understand it. :)
