PS2 What is The Ultimate PS2 Modchip

Honestly, I have a Modbo 5 (in a SCPH-77004) and a DMS4 Pro (an genuine DMS4 at that, SCPH-39004 w/ Bitfunx SATA modified Network Adapter.)

I much prefer DMS4 Pro... the only thing Modbo5 has above any of its older siblings (4, 760, 750, etc.) is USB boot, but that's it.

Lot of people will arque that it is not but i disagree. Modbo 5.0 is the ultimate modchip. it has all the latest features and is super reliable. i use it exclusively. it can boot from hdd,mc and even usb. nothing beats that.

The Modbo is a good chip, it's cheap and does the job just like a how a Modchip is supposed to, and now it's a no brainer. It's all you can find these days, I flipped a bunch of PS2's thanks to the Modbo being dirt cheap and readily available. But it is a clone of the original Matrix Infinity Modchip. Plus all Modchips are really reliable due to there simplicity. And due the Modbo being a clone, it doesn't bring anything new to PS2 modding and clones are usually always worse than the originals. Modbo's are also non upgradeable, once you try to update it, you essentially brick the chip.

I ruined my Modbo 4 this way and now they're also rare. The firmware you get is what you get in the Modbo. The Matrix Infinity, DMS4, Mars Pro and other Modchips released during the time of the PS2 are much better and the firmware can be updated. The Matrix Infinity is the ultimate chip. The parts are of higher quality, with it using an FPGA Chip and it's upgradeable. There is a reason why these are expensive, costing a hundred plus. It is essentially the ultimate Modchip that is made by the original Matrix team, making it collectable too. It's not a clone like the Modbo. I put standard Modbo 5's into standard PS2'S. But for my special edition Aqua Blue PS2 and my PSX DVR, I have the Matrix Infinity. I wish the Matrix Infinity chip was still being made with more firmware updates, with it no longer being around, it killed the PS2 Modchip community.

IIRC Mars Pro isn't upgradeable.
