Hello! I am new to this forum, but I joined to discuss my PS3 with the yellow light of death. I want help with fixing it and understanding the issues. I already did research but I'd like to discuss it with people that are experienced. First of all, the YLOD happens during different times. Sometimes it happens right as the ps3 starts, and sometimes it doesn't happen at all for a very long time. It usually happens whenever running a demanding game. Another thing I want explained that I haven't found online is it running significantly longer whenever I run the ps3 with the top unscrewed and taken off. Whenever I do this, it can run games for a long time and sometimes doesn't even do the YLOD, but with the top on it almost always happens when I try starting a game. I don't believe it is due to overheating as I have taken it apart and cleaned it and replaced thermal paste fairly recently. I have also done a diagnoses using ps3toolset.com, and received the error codes 2124 and 1002. This leads me to believe that the NEC/TOKINS are the issue, but that doesn't explain why the console runs longer without the top on. I'd also like to be guided through the NEC/TOKIN repair process as I am pretty inexperienced and didn't seem to find any good videos online. Thanks for reading and for everyone's help in advance. Please help me get my beloved PS3 back!
