FSM mode is better. I was able to go to 1.02 from 3.55. My console is October 2006 lowest firmware is 1.00 from factory. QA flags only let me go to 2.50.

You could try, wouldn’t hurt weird its reads dvds. Ps2 discs do have more data to read so could it could be on its last leg. Just make sure you transfer the daughter boards on the drives if you do go that route nand consoles are annoying to remarry BD drives. Or just get replacement laser. Also...

DVD part of blu ray laser might be gone. Ps3 blu rays have 2 lasers blu-ray and dvd.

I did this before years ago with 2.40. Download ofw and QA toggle the ps3 modify the ofw to have cfw syscalls then install the 1.00 ofw over 1.00 cfw. Not sure if this would work on a firmware as old as 1.00.
