PS3 4.78 Starbucks + COBRA v7.30 by Habib

{UPDATE - FEB.16) The new COBRA V7.30 has arrived and its included in Habib's latest cfw release 4.78 STARBUCKS (COBRA), comes equipped with the latest version of COBRA (v7.30). With this latest version of Cobra developer's Habib & Mysis were able to finally eliminate some of the limitation and annoyances in Cobra's PS2emu, such as the controller sync issue when launching PS2ISO from the XMB's disc icon. While habib himself provided a workaround using the PS2 Launcher, this bug has finally been squashed. There was also some other changes in this update to Cobra's PS2emu [break]ss[/break] that should improve the overall experience. Habib firmware comes with his usual patches and features such as OtherOS compatibility & CINAVIA patches, view all the details of this firmware in the release details provided by developer habib.

I use psnplugin (psnpatch.sprx) on startup, very usefull for my san that some times forget to clean syscalls before to connect on PSN
It seems to be only compatible with REBUG CFW on REBUG sytem mod I believe ??? Does this firmware cut connection to PSN if I put the line in boot_plugins.txt manually ?
I need to know it before decide to upgrading to 4.78 Starbucks

Thanks in advance for your response

psnpatch is compatible with most firmware types not just rebug. psnpatch also has no firmware dependencies. So it will work on either 4.78 rebug or 4.78 Startbucks (aka 4.78 Habib).

So far everything's pretty good on habibs 4.78, PS2 Games run brilliantly although PSX games run at about half speed / stutter like mad unless I check ps1_netemu in webman.

Is this expected behavior? Any drawbacks to using netemu?

Currently playing Castlevania - Symphony of the night btw.
All my games are in ISO format on internal hdd. (bin/cue for psx)

Just webman mod 1.43.26, psnpatch and multiman installed aside from my iso's.

I think he disabled vmode fix that fixes refresh rate issue because of the other issue on bc consoles can't launch cross regions like PAL on NTSC and vice versa. He did this on his previous 4.76 as well but I prefer to keep the issue on bc consoles for majority of non bc users as far as psx gaming is considered

Ahh ok, Yeah I forgot most of my games are NTSC format on a PAL system.
I'd love to have my BC system up and running, but it's long dead and I assume most survivors don't have long left to live. :P

Even my CECHL which has had minimal use over the last XX years (turned on a couple of times a year for the main part) is starting to show issues.

netemu seems to work so far at least. :)

There are no drawbacks on using netemu
Infact it sometimes increases compatibility
And yes this is expected and joonie explained it just right

Cheers mate. sounds like a good setup then.
normal mode for bc consoles and netemu for everyone else. too easy.

Thanks again for your effort on this. Dont feel so bad about killing my cecha01 trying to downgrade it now. :D

Bc users will suffer from the same frame rate issue.. Netemu may not

HDD Not Reformatted?

thanks habib. 4.46 cfw users have no reason to not update now

I'm still on Rogero 4.55 CFW. I plan on updating now. Does the HDD get reformatted when installing overtop with this Habib 4.78 CFW? I swear I read a post somewhere in which somebody said there game data got erased from their HDD when installing this overtop another CFW. I didn't think that is supposed to happen? Thanks! :)

you can disable cobra? how?

No he is saying that his firmware is a standard CFW when Cobra is disabled thus not needing to make a standard CFW as well. Kinda like Rebug only makes one firmware and one must enable Cobra to use the features. So they don't need to make multiple firmwares as it is techincally all in one. DEX, CEX as well as it can be DEX Cobra and CEX Cobra. This can be a vanilla standard CEX firmware as well as being able to be a CEX Cobra firmware.

No when going from Cobra 7 to say Cobra 7.3 you have to delete the game data and reinstall it. A HDD is not super but you must reinstall the game data just like when you first launch the game.

ah, i was thinking you can disable cobra in habib firmware. i know for sure you can disable cobra with rebug through the rebug toolbox, just wasn't sure if habib cfw also had that feature.

hmm. upon testing some more psx isos it would appear netemu still runs slow as well.

Doesnt stutter like the normal mode, but on say tony hawk 2 you can hear how slow the music is playing. Sounds quite amusing actually. Again. ntsc iso on pal console due to killing ntsc console. :)

Cant have everything lol.

I'm not updating Cobra features though like you stated(7.0 to 7.3) . This is a straight jump from Rogero 4.55 CFW to 4.78 CFW. So, even a straight jump to this 4.78 CFW requires that all my games & game data(patches, etc.) will have to be re-installed again? If so, that sucks for me! I have a ton to be re-installed. I might hold of longer now to jump to a newer CFW. There's on only a couple of games right now that I want to play that would force me to make that jump. :banghead:

That is strange i never had to reinstal gamedata when updating from cobra cfw to cobra cfw no matter the version of cobra, only time when i had to reinstall gamedata was when i tested rebug cfw and dont know why as far as i remember.

you can disable cobra? how?

Generally speaking, you can disable Cobra by renaming stage2.bin in /dev_flash/sys/xxxx
xxxx being different on different CFW flavours.
To enable Cobra again rename it back to original name.

Edit: habib confirmed it was fine to disable Cobra this way.

I remember on 4.46 habib had said that renaming stage2.bin was not risky at all when using debug lv1.
Am not sure using debug lv1 is still mandatory...
Personally I disable Cobra by renaming stage2.bin without a debug lv1. Never had any problems.
Maybe habib will confirm.

Edit: lv1 can be debug or release. It makes no difference according to habib

As always, remember that modifying /dev_flash in general is not without risk. You should only do this if you know what you are doing.
