you are right... i just think it still in prev HFW version because in tutorial they suggest to install the update twice, or from Recovery Mode (CMIIW)

This is exactly what I am trying to say, everything is so "complicated" with 4.85 exploitation. I miss how easy it was installing the Rebug 4.84 CFW, and the ones before it. Guess I'll continue waiting...

Install an Update twice is to make both ROS0 & ROS1 on same version cause when user update ps3 one of ROS become active and update the firmware version to the newly installed one but when you install it second it will switch to other ROS that still have lower firmware version

    For exemple :

    • When you Install a Firmware First Time (Whatever type Official,Custom-Modified or Hybrid) for exemple 4.85 one of ROS will be 4.85 and the other will still the version that you were on before Installing the 4.85 (ex:4.82,4.83,4.84,4.75,4.53...etc)
    • When you Install a Firmware Second Time ROS will be switched and the inactive one will be active and the reverse so both ROS will be 4.85

If you don't install same firmware version you install in first time you will have ROS with higher version and ROS with lower version the one with higher version will be the active one and the other will have 4.84 or below but it doesn't change anything only to keep both ROS0&ROS1 of CoreOS same version :)

Hey! You're right. Hell yeah. I think I instantly replace the cobra version. Cobra is simple, and works perfectly but everthing is hidden in it at least I don't know how to reach any other settings.

ok, so this time, I installed overflow v5 4.85 on a cechk01 and then took the hdd out and stuck another one in and tried to install the fw but now it says there is no applicable data no matter WHICH fw I throw at it... help? the old drive is no longer available either so I'm stuck and not sure how to proceed... tried using the file system from another ps3 but encrypted drives prevent actual function without formating but it won't take any firmware at all... the bd drive works but does not spin the disc so I know the daughter board is ok to some extent but could that be the cause of the problem and would it work if I dropped the bd drive from my L01 into it?

UPDATE: I have tried almost everything both OFW and CFW and it still says "no applicable data."
I don't think the BD drive would cause the issue due to the fact that the ps3 was working perfect except for the disc-spinup in the first place and would let me update normally and use all functions as if drive were present and fully operational.
INFO: Attempt to boot normal brings me to the "system software cannot run" screen and asks for ver 2.16 or higher
Safe mode boot and update attempt asks for 2.50 and higher.
Attempt to restore ps3 system starts to format but reboots immediately and same for the other safemode options other than system update and I'm back that the screen asking for 2.16 or higher.
    Help?

    Hi everyone
I have some questions, I have installed HFW 4.85 twice first through xmb and second time through recovery mode. do I need to install CFW 4.85 (for example spy cobra ) twice as HFW?
if I want to install another CFW later, what should I do then? Would it be enough to put it in the flash usb drive and go to update or I have to plan something else?
and finally can I install CFW 4.84 on HFW 4.85? Is it possible? The question is because there is some missing lines in CFW download section for v4.85

Hi there. To answer your questions.
    1. You don't need to install CFW twice, but you can reinstall it as many times as you like without a problem. CFW is installed via System Update on the XMB, like how you installed HFW.
    2. You can install another 4.85 CFW directly, but to install a lower CFW version like 4.84 you first need to enable your QA flag. This will allow you to move up and down between firmware versions freely.

As for CFW 4.85, there are currently three trustworthy versions available. The most recent - Ferrox Cobra - was added to this thread just today. More CFW for 4.85 may emerge in the future, but for now there's three excellent choices available. Of course, toggling on the QA flag like I mentioned will let you install CFW of a lower version than 4.85. Hope this answers your questions. :)
