PS3 4.89 Jailbreaking - PS3 CFW (Custom Firmware Capable Models) Status + Warnings

I came across ps3xploit.me up and running through a Google search. Is there anyway of telling if this is a clone site or the real deal?

That domain is the real thing and it works. The only thing missing is Bgtoolset, which hopefully will be available in the near future.

would it be best to wait for the bgtoolset to be available rather than installing CFW now? also is it best to use a OFW lower than 4.89?

Yes, you must wait for @bguerville to release it as the old server was closed last October and the bgtoolsets out there are the extremely dangerous stolen copies that don't have the security features implemented.

OFW 4.89 has lots of layouts broken, but it's the only way to go online with PSN. That's the only difference between FWs. Luckily, HEN supports all FW versions and even addresses the layout issues to some extent.

I just realised that no more than week ago I used .me domain (ps3xploit.me) by mistake and that it worked. My friend gave me the wrong address most probably found somewhere on the internet. Stange.... Maybe that will be the new adress and I just discovered it by accident.

it is the official ps3xploit site now (at least for hen). there are also mirrors of the hen installers on my github page at https://ps3addict.github.io/ if the official site goes down.

Has anyone tried to jailbreak their console using the archived website from wayback machine?

i doubt it would work from there. there are clones, but they are incomplete and possibly dangerous. best to wait for the new site.

Just thought I'd throw it out there since others are looking for a way to jb their consoles without resorting to sketchy sites.

If someone REALLY wanted to, they could download the website I linked and verify that the important bits are there or not. Maybe host it elsewhere if it is complete.

Luckily I was able to jb my PS3 console collection before the site was taken down.

There's 0% of the actual jailbreak related code there. BGToolset was designed with web crawlers in mind, so they wouldn't be able to download it just by inspecting the HTML, or javascript.

Sorry for asking a stupid question, but is there no way to install full CFW on a ps3 without bg toolset.A software solution not hardware like a flasher e3 etc etc...
Is bg toolset the only way to do this using the internet. What are other ways ,i know there are but easy ways please.HEN is ok for now as a temperately solution right

The biggest issue for now is the lack of testers with access to hardware flasher. There are already updated HFW flash writers for 4.89, but afaik no one volunteered to test it.
Other solutions are based on HEN + some homebrew app, like webMAN MOD (https://github.com/aldostools/webMA...c39cfc8f25ea66240fb8d/include/feat/rospatch.h). But again, there's not enough people to test it.

Hopefully I can get access to E3 flasher pretty soon, but can't promise anything yet.

@aldostools Flashers or not, if someone's willing to use a dangerous Russian clone, which is way more likely to result in a brick than your tool, why not have them do the beta tests?

Because "It worked" or "It bricked my hardware" is not an answer that we need. I for example bricked my hardware with the code linked in my previous post. Even though it was tested at least 50 times with USB flash drives, always resulting in a good patch, it still froze on sys_storage_write() when tested on HEN with NOR flash. There just isn't a way to account for that before you actually try it. And once it happens, the only way to know what exactly failed is to dump the flash and look for clues. Therefore, this means that "intentionally" bricking someone's hardware with it gives us no feedback, unless they have access to a hardware flasher.

Perhaps you were not following - aldostools has a beta (or actually alpha) version of a flasher that can run locally. It's also not fully tested and it's not guaranteed it won't result in a brick, though it is believed that it's probably safer than the pirate clones of bgtoolset. My point is that if there are already people willing to use those pirate sites and risk a brick, they might as well help test that tool.

The original code was more of a proof of concept that wouldn't match BGToolset results even remotely. Which is ok, that's why it was posted as such. I then reverse engineered most of the bguerville's implementation, compared it to public resources and updated the code to match it more closely. That resulted in two pull requests, which you can see in webMAN MOD repo. Even then, we still know that it isn't perfect. And unless there's more research about what may or may not happen during flash writes from the VSH process, there's no point in bricking more hardware. Especially if the person can't recover from a bad flash.

Dear NiQ,
95% of the users can do with HEN what they would do with CFW. Very few features require CFW.
Only if you're a developer CFW is a must for certain features like DEX, Linux, LV1 peek/poke, etc.

Russian clone may have worked for some users but it is VERY DANGEREOUS to use. It's not me who said that. It was bguerville and NOBODY knows bgtoolset more than him. However, if a PS3 user wants to take the risk and brick their console, nobody can prohibit to do it. We only are providing responsible warnings; unlike the flasher clones that don't give any warning or support after a brick.

The Web Flasher in webMAN MOD is a work in progress... it's still far to be ready to public beta tests.
Currently only people with hardware flashers are accepted. So far, except @kostirez1, @bucanero and @littlebalup, nobody else has shown serious interest in the project.

It will be open when it's ready. The source code is open for anyone that want to review it.
And we will be happy to answer any questions by developers and testers interested.
